CDL Stage 5 – What to Expect, Groups, and Pickems
The Call of Duty League’s 2021 Season has been a big success. The League has been bigger than ever, even with restrictions on in-person play. The season is heading towards closure, and we’re looking at the start of its final leg.
The CDL Stage 5 Group stage is due to kick off this weekend. Beginning with a group stage of regular Season matches, followed by a LAN Major. This is what you need to know about the stage, and what you can expect from the next few weeks of action:
CDL Stage 5 Preview – What to Expect
The CDL 2021 Season Stage 5 event is the final of its type before the Season concludes. All four previous stages have seen teams battle it out, but a few have definitely risen to the top of the pile. At this point in the season, we have a pretty good grasp of how the teams are currently looking in the pecking order. However, there are still chances of a major upset to reinvent the standings at this late stage.
This is the final leg of the 2021 season. Teams will be initially competing in groups at first. After three weeks of this group stage, we move into a LAN major to find an overall winner for the CDL Stage 5. These groups determine their standings for the major. Rather than dividing by location, the CDL divides the top-ranking players from the last major into different groups for a more fair grouping. These are what the groups are going to be for Stage 5:
Group A
- Atlanta FaZe
- OpTic Chicago
- New York Subliners
- Los Angeles Thieves
- Paris Legion
- London Royal Ravens
Group B
- Dallas Empire
- Toronto Ultra
- Minnesota RØKKR
- Florida Mutineers
- Los Angeles Guerrillas
- Seattle Surge
These two groups are fairly well divided between the top-level teams and those with more space to grow. Although, Group A is a bit more stacked with the teams that have stood out. FaZe have proven themselves to be the top team the season. At the CDL Stage 5 LAN, they’re likely the team to watch for Call of Duty betting. Although, New York and Chicago have hardly had a bad season, it’s a rare occasion when they have bested ATL FaZe. All three teams are ones to watch for the title, so these matches here will definitely be interesting.
Group B has a few bigger teams in it too. Specifically, Dallas and Toronto have been formidable. However, the rest of the teams in this group are pretty solidly ranking in the middle for the 2021 Season. While they could turn things around, the results of this group at the end of the stage seem easier to predict.
CDL Stage 5 Week 1 Pick’em
It’ll take a few weeks of Group Stage matches to determine the seedings for the major. However, if you’re looking at pick’ems, then things are kicking off soon with every match counting. These are our choices for the CDL Stage 5.
I expect both Subliners and FaZe ace their weeks’ matches and in dominating fashion. The banger of the week to me is actually Toronto Ultra and Minnesota Rokkr. Both teams have serious ups and downs, but if both show up on Sunday we are in for one of the best series of the week.
We finished Stage 4 with a solid 100 point count. Let’s hope Stage 5 goes even better. Check back with our Esports News section for weekly CDL Pick’ems.
