Is MultiVersus Dying Just Months After Re-Release?

MultiVersus might only just be back, but is it dying again? Seems like a silly question as we’re barley into the third season of the game. However, with how quickly the title went from record-breaking to gone last time, fans have a few reasons to keep an eye on its performance. How can we tell if MultiVersus is dying?

There are a few different metrics we can look at. We might now know exactly how much money MultiVersus is bringing in for Warner Bros games, probably an important metric in keeping support going. How many MultiVersus skins are being bought and extra fighters. However, we can have a decent idea of both its player numbers and how supported the game is. Compared to the progress in the open beta, we can assess pretty well is MultiVersus dying again.

Is MultiVersus Dying?

MultiVersus has come back from its open beta, remade and better than ever. However, there are two things that fans should keep an eye on to watch for its current health. The first is the support the game is getting.

The biggest problem with the last round of MultiVersus was how quickly content dried up. Within a short while of release, the new characters were being delayed and content just seemed to stop coming until most players kind of stopped even checking.

Things are different now. The game has a very healthy release schedule. If you’re trying to keep up on MultiVersus patch notes, ones arrive all the time. It’s clear MultiVersus has the developer support to keep the game alive. With plans and updates coming, the title has a bright future for those who are playing it.

However, balance and smaller patches have slowed down. While new seasons are coming at the same pace, it has slowed down with outside patches. We could put this down to the game being more properly balanced, but it might be a sign of slowing support.

Is the Player Count Dropping?

That’s our first estimate of how things go for MultiVersus, but content is only good while players can actually use it. Is there still a good enough MultiVersus player base to actually get matches and test the new content? Or are we playing against MultiVersus bots? This is becoming a problem.

Since its comeback, MultiVersus has once again entered a pretty rough downward spiral in player numbers. As of September, it’s frequently having as few as 900 players online at once. Its peaks are still way above this, but as a general picture, its player numbers are looking quite low.

The MultiVersus player base has been declining since June. In July, it suffered a loss of 70% of its average players from the month before. In August, it lost more than another 30%. In September, it seems it’s losing about another 30%.

These losses are with new content released like MultiVersus Season 3. What does this mean for the game? Its current player numbers are clearly disappointing. If it continues to decline like this, the game could be in some trouble soon. New season launches don’t even seem to change things very often. Even MultiVersus Ranked coming out didn’t really move the needle. Hopefully, the game can find its footing again.
