Dev Blog Details New MultiVersus Rollback

Since we’re just weeks away from the return of MultiVersus, we’re beginning to see more about how the game has changed. One of the most exciting announcements we’ve seen so far has been that MultiVersus is getting rollback netcode. This is basically the gold standard of fighting games online.

Looking at the open beta, developers behind MultiVersus have explained a few problems they’re looking at fixing. The first might be online. The lag and problems caused by varying ping were identified, so MultiVersus Rollback is being instituted. The new rollback system will ensure a much nicer experience when playing head-to-head online. However, in the video showing the new netcode off players have noticed a bit more.

It feels like MultiVersus rollback may have led to the game slowing down just a little bit. By the looks of gameplay, the pace of the game has slowed. We haven’t yet seen how many characters in the MultiVersus roster has changed though. We might see characters have been adapted to match the slower pace too.

In the same dev blog, they’ve also explained some changes coming to matchmaking. Previously latency decided who you matched with. However, the changes to netcode will make latency much less of a problem. It sounds MultiVersus has had some major improvements in its time offline.
