Glutonny Defeats Light to Win ReWired Fest

ReWired Fest 2023 was an interesting tournament last week, with Smash Ultimate and SF 6 both represented at the event. For the Smash Bros event, it was an unexpected finish with one of the best Smash players just losing out in the final bracket. ReWired Fest saw Glutonny take one of his biggest major wins of the year. This is what happened and why the results were so unexpected.

ReWired Fest – Gluttonny Defeats Light

Before the tournament started, Sparg0 was definitely the player to watch here on the back of his recent performances. However, Glutonny managed to claim the top spot at the end of the bracket. How did it happen?

The final bracket started on the winners side with a matchup between MuteAce and Gluttonny, where the latter player won 3-1.

In the Losers Final, Sparg0 faced Light. Sparg0 was heading into ReWired Fest with a lot of momentum thanks to some strong performances at recent tournaments over 2023. However, in a bit of an upset Light won out here, in a big way too. He won 3-0. Taking Sparg0 down, playing Fox. This put Light through against MuteAce in the Losers Final. Here, Light again won 3-1, facing Glutonny in the final.

Far from being an easy win for any single player, we saw a close set where Light and Glutonny traded rounds. Things looked like we might even get a bracket reset and a second round. However, in the fifth game, Glutonny managed to take his third win and secure the match. Glutonny has gotten a big win under his belt here and it’s a real achievement for this player.

It wasn’t just Smash Ultimate at ReWired Fest though. We also saw a SF 6 tournament take place. SF 6 also had an interesting finish, although the results for the best SF 6 players were a bit less shocking here. The final bracket was eventually won by JustAkId, but we saw quite a few strong performances over the course of the tournament.

This event is more than just a Smash tournament though. Being held by VGBootCamp, it’s the first tournament from the organizer since the Smash World Tour got cancelled. What can we expect for their first major return to the world of fighting game esports?

Format and Players

ReWired Fest 2023 is going to be a tournament taking place over October 6-7th. In it, we’ll see two major events in offline LANs, taking place in Fayetteville. The main event is likely the Smash Bros tournament, but the Street Fighter 6 event will be a fun chance to see some players competing in a pretty different style of fighter too.

The Smash Bros side of things is an Ultimate tournament, playing on the latest version of the game. This has a $10,000 prize pool at stake and nearly 300 players have signed up to take part. Among these players are some of the top active names. Sparg0 is showing up to the event, fresh off back-to-back coinbox wins. There are also players like Glutonny, Light, MuteAce and more showing up. With such a stacked roster this should make for a fun Ultimate tournament. The big question of ReWired Fest 2023 is if anyone can actually take down Sparg0 at the tournament.

Along with Smash Ultimate, there will also be a ReWired Fest 2023 Street Fighter 6 tournament! This is also being played with pools followed by a double-elimination bracket. The event matches the prize pool too. There are more than 100 players for this seasonal event, with big names like JustaKid and Justin Wong performing at the event.
