Reload Duos Now Available in Fortnite

Fortnite Reload is a new game mode that’s been one of Chapter 5’s most exciting additions. A brand-new style of Battle Royale, and one dedicated to the more traditional gameplay of Fortnite. At the start it was just Squads, fitting its gameplay twist of having reboots turned on throughout. However, now it’s expanded with Fortnite Reload Duos now added too.

When the game first launched, it looked like Squads was the main mode for the game. A game mode dedicated to larger team sizes. However, after launch, Reload was a major part of the Fortnite player count. At times, out-numbering Battle Royale. Its player base looks big enough to support multiple modes, including the new Fortnite Reload Duos. How will the new mode work?

Fortnite Reload Duos Added in New Update

The new Fortnite mode is going to expand out to Duos as well as Squads. However, the game mode is based on a reboot mechanic. Players get rebooted as long as another player is alive. However, Fortnite Reload is getting a few shifts to accommodate smaller team sizes.

This is how it’s going to work:

  • When a player dies, they’ll still reboot.
  • Now, Reboot timers will begin at 12 seconds up to 16 before they’re turned off.
  • You can reduce reboot timers by fighting other Duos.
    • 2 seconds a time removed from downing opponents
    • 3 by eliminating them
    • 5 by taking out a whole set of duos

Epic has said these initial times are liable to change. They’ll be watching performance and player feedback to see how it works and possibly adjust them over time too.

Other than that, the game mode is going to work the same way. It’s a mini–Battle Royale where you can respawn up until the end of the game. After that, it’s the same as normal Battle Royale with players battling for survival. The loot pool is more classic and the map is a rework of Chapter 1 locales. It’s a nice change of pace compared to the current meta of Fortnite Battle Royale.

Duos is a welcome addition to this new mode. Clearly, the payer numbers are strong enough to support running quite a few different formats. It looks like Fortnite Reload is here to stay, it’ll be interesting to see where it goes from here.
