What is Fortnite Reload and How Can You Play?
This week Fortnite dropped a bit of a crazy bit of news, a whole new mode. This time with basically no build up, Epic has decided to release Fortnite Reload. A brand-new game mode with a focus on gunplay. An alternative to Battle Royale with more than a hint of Fortnite OG.
This latest release has already had a big boost to the Fortnite player numbers, but what exactly is it? As a fresh game mode, it’s got a lot of changes. There’s unique mechanics to get your head around plus an entirely different loot pool for the game. This is what you can expect from Fortnite Reload, the brand-new mode.

What is Fortnite Reload?
Fortnite Reload is another new game mode added. Just like Lego or Rocket Racing, it’s a bit difference from the standard game. Reload is the closest other game mode we’ve had added to Battle Royale though. This isn’t some LTM, with an adapted rule set. It’s a full game mode with its own island and entirely different set up.
The game has respawns turned on in a bigger way than we’ve ever seen in Fortnite before. The lot pool is drawing heavy inspiration from the Chapter 1 flashback OG, but the island is a mix of old and new.
Starting from Saturday 22, you’ll be able to select Fortnite Reload as a playlist. It’s listed alongside Battle Royale, Zero Builds, and the other games. It’s available in more than one form though.
Is There Zero Builds Fortnite Reload? Squad Sizes and Modes
Fortnite Reload is coming in both Builds and Zerp Builds! For those who prefer to play with raw gunplay, you can do without builds. However, the format is a bit limited in other areas.

At the moment, Fortnite Reload is limited to Squads. Since the game mode is tied to the reboot mechanic, it’s only for groups of four. You can’t play in Solos, but you can play in fill with random squamates.
Reboots in Reload
The biggest mechanic in Fortnite Reload is the reboots. These have been part of Battle Royale for a while but it’s a bigger part of Reload.
If you die in Reload, you’ll reboot pretty quick. No one has to go to a van, it’s an automatic respawn. As long as one player is still alive, the other squad mates will all auto revive until towards the end of the game, when reboots get turned off.
For most players, these reboots will mean that you can play much more aggressive. The game is set up to reward pushing, with players getting into fights with little care for their own safety. This whole set-up is going to make for a very different type of game play than Battle Royale, where often cautiousness is rewarded especially when climbing the Fortnite ranks.
The reboots will be differently timed depending on when you get killed. This is how the timing works.
- Reboots take 30 seconds for most of the game, then 40 later in the match.
- Still alive players can take time off this timer. 2 seconds for downing another player, 4 for eliminating one, 10 for wiping out a squad.
- Reboots stop closer to the end of a match.
Fortnite Reload Map

The next big feature for Reload is a brand new Fortnite map. The best landing spots in Chapter 5 don’t apply here. It’s a map that reworks some old POIs, but also features some brand-new ones. Tilted Towers specifically is here, in the right center of the map.
The map is considerably smaller than a standard Battle Royale. It’s perfectly made for the smaller sizes in Fortnite Reload.

There are some interesting weapons for the Fortnite Reload mode. One key part of the game is that there’s no vehicles. A small mercy for those not enjoying the current Car focused C5 S3 gameplay. There’s a really interesting set of weapons out there for players though. These are the guns included in this game mode at the moment.
- Revolver
- Tactical Shotgun
- OG Heavy Shotgun
- Tactical Submachine Gun
- Infantry Rifle
- Heavy Assault Rifle
- Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle
- Rocket Launcher
- Grappler
Victory Crowns
One Battle Royale exclusive mechanic is sticking around for Reload, Victory Crowns are here. These can be earnt in the game mode, and you’ll be able to get Crown Royales! Since it’s faster paced, the Fortnite Victory Crowns could flow a lot quicker here. It’s still a challenge to win a Fortnite game, but you get more shots at it in Reload.
Free Cosmetics and Rewards

Fortnite Reload have some really interesting content. To push players to try everything out, Epic has included a batch of new quests along with some free cosmetics you can earn for taking part. Each of the intro quests will be 20,000 XP, great for getting through the Battle Pass. You can also earn these cosmetics:
- Digital Dogfight Contrail
- Pool Cubes Wrap
- NaNa Bath back Bling
- Rezzbrella Glider (OG exclusive Victory Umbrella)

That’s how everything will work in Fortnite Reload! This is an exciting new mode, that should make for a fun change of pace from the standard Battle Royale gameplay.
