Although Nasus has abilities that deal AP damage, his primary ability, which is his Q, deals physical damage, which primarily makes him a more AD champion. Nasus gets more damage the more he stacks, which is why he is a pain the further the game progresses, as he becomes this unkillable demon.
Trinity Force and Sterak’s Gage are the two core items that players in the higher elo are currently using on Nasus. Players will often go for tank items after the first core damage item, as their damage will scale with their Q stacks regardless.
Here are Nasus’s abilities in League of Legends:
- Soul Eater (Passive): Nasus has an additional 11% life steal.
- Siphoning Strike (Q): Nasus’ next attack deals extra Physical Damage. Killing an enemy, whether that be a minion, monster or champion, gives you stacks and permanently increases its damage.
- Wither (W): Nasus slows the target champion by 35%, which increases to 47% over 5 seconds. The targets attack speed is also greatly reduced by 75% of the slow.
- Spirit Fire (E): Nasus ignites a circular flame in a target location; enemies in the target area lose 25% armor and receive Magic Damage over 5 seconds.
- Fury of the Sands (R): Nasus becomes empowered for 15 seconds, increasing his max health, armor and magic resistance. During this time Siphoning Strike also has a 50% cooldown reduction.
Conclusion
Although Nasus’ abilities are mainly AP, the deal breaker of whether you should play him AP or AD is his Siphoning Strike (Q). Sure, you can have some fun and play Nasus AP in a game of ARAM, but when it comes to the Summoner’s Rift and Ranked games, tanky dog is always the way to go.
Get those core items, and stack.
