Sitting on the throne puts a crosshair squarely on your chest, and for defending champions FURIA, the quarterfinals of the Blast R6 Major marks their last day. The opening two series of Stage 3 saw back to back upsets as top seeds Team Secret and FURIA sent home in the Quarter Finals.

BLAST R6 Major Quarterfinals

Coming into the quarterfinals of the BLAST R6 Major, Team Secret and FURIA were first and second respectively after 3 rounds of swiss. They were set to face Team BDS, who narrowly made it through, and Team Liquid, the only team to make it to the main stage from the Last Chance Qualifier.

The French crowd got what they wanted as Team BDS barrelled their way to a 2-0 win, knocking out top seeded Team Secret in the process.

Liquid take out FURIA

But that wasn’t the only upset of the day. In a best of three that went the full distance, Liquid managed to stomp all over the Six Invitational 2024 champions, FURIA on one of their best maps – Chalet. It was one of most hype games of the Major so far, with the live audience in Manchester really making the difference.

In an interesting turn of events, both teams ending up winning the other’s map pick. With Liquid picking up Kafe and FURIA taking the W on Labs.

“It’s time for a new team to become leader” – Lagonis speaking exclusively to Esports.net after the game.

The confidence is certainly well earned. Liquid have had a hell of a run so far. They took out G2 in the very first round of the tournament and landed themselves in the top 8 teams at the BLAST R6 Major.

Next up, Liquid are going to have to face either beastcoast or FaZe Clan. The road ahead is treacherous but there’s nothing stopping this roster from going the whole way.
