The Finals Season 3 Introduces a Bow and a Kyoto-Themed Map
Embark Studios has just lifted the lid on season three of The Finals, the destructive, free-to-play shooter that was released in December 2023. In a short trailer showcasing what’s coming next for The Finals, the team uncovered an all-new experience that plants players in the heart of Kyoto in 1568. With a time travel theme being interwoven into season three, players are invited to wield katanas and bows in a period-accurate representation that’s fused with the explosive elements of this high-octane shooter.
It was revealed that the new season drops on June 13, offering players the next iteration of the multiplayer ecosystem that has been turning heads for several months. Despite some teething issues and the understandable ‘dropping off’ of players, The Finals has remained relatively popular and has been lauded as a success by the game’s publisher, Nexon. It has been referenced that the game didn’t do quite so well as expected, but it’s still doing enough to stay afloat.
The Finals Goes to Kyoto
Since being shadowdropped in December 2023, The Finals has seen a substantial decline in player count, with the game now peaking at around 10,000 players on Steam per day. That’s to be expected for any game and is typical behaviour, but this free-to-play shooter relies on investment from players to remain afloat, so these updates are seriously important for the developer – and the publisher.
Season three of The Finals looks stellar, though. The latest trailer that was released to showcase the game’s next update was a tasty one, with Embark Studios revealing new weapons like a katana and a bow that’ll sit comfortably alongside assault rifles and RPGs. New abilities are also working their way into the game with this update, and the game’s Ranked Mode is getting an overhaul and a new focused ‘mode’ for players to enjoy.
That latest change means that the Ranked Mode will pivot from a 3v3v3 to a 5v5-based ecosystem. That aligns it more closely with the best esports games on the market, like Rainbow Six Siege or VALORANT, even if there currently isn’t a solid esports landscape in place for The Finals.
Here’s the new trailer for season three:
It’s likely the meta will change considerably when the third season of The Finals is released on June 13. Amongst other things being introduced sits a heavy spear, a new ‘Winch Claw’ gadget for Heavy characters, a new tactical breaching gadget called the Thermal Bore, and tweaks to one of the game’s most exciting modes, Power Shift. It’s a veritable feast of items and unlocks, but will season three be enough to turn the tide for The Finals?
