Is There Any Tarkov DLC? Escape from Tarkov Story Explained
Escape from Tarkov has evolved an immeasurable amount since it debuted in 2016. It has gone from being a basic extraction shooter with few complex elements to a living, breathing ecosystem with millions of players. It’s nothing short of being a titan of the gaming industry, and the developer – Battlestate Games – works hard to constantly expand and update the game. With that being said, has there ever been any Tarkov DLC released? And if not, is there any Escape from Tarkov DLC planned for the future?
In this snapshot guide, we’ll walk through that topic, with references based on interviews with Battlestate Games’ head of the studio, Nikita Buyanov. If you’ve been wondering about the existence of Tarkov DLC – paid or otherwise – this guide will set your mind at ease.
Does Tarkov Have DLC?
There is no Tarkov DLC – the game has never had any expansions released that broadened the base game. There’s a standalone game called Escape from Tarkov Arena, and that’s the closest thing you’ll get to downloadable content. Similarly, Battlestate Games released a series of microtransactions that allowed players to purchase stash expansions and cosmetics, but again, they’re not in the same realm as DLC.
Tarkov DLC is on the horizon, though. In an interview in April 2024, Nikita Buyanov spoke about a DLC roadmap for Escape from Tarkov, but he didn’t mention what that roadmap would ultimately look like. There were references to a ‘clan and alliance’ system being introduced in Escape from Tarkov, but that’s expected to drop with Tarkov 1.0. That’s when the game will ‘graduate’ from the beta state that it’s in, finally becoming a full-fledged release.
Are Tarkov Events DLC?
Escape from Tarkov is very well known for the events that take place on the platform. Battlestate Games regularly hosts special events that are either put in place to celebrate a festive period or to usher in a ‘wipe’, which is where the game resets itself. They’re typically challenging events that require players to hit certain milestones or work as a community to tick a sizeable box, and they’re traditionally very fun and a nice break from the core gameplay loop.
With that being said, it’s clear that they’re not classed as Tarkov DLC. There will need to be an update that’s downloaded to play them, but that’s not enough to consider them ‘DLC’. They’re limited-time events that wrap up within a few days and they don’t permanently expand the game like downloadable content does.
Tarkov DLC is coming soon, but not yet.
