What Are Prestige Skins In League of Legends?
Prestige skins are rare, premium versions of select champion skins in League of Legends.
They feature brighter color palettes, luxurious enhancements, and signature gold detailing across the character’s outfit, weapons, and visual effects. Many also come with exclusive splash art that highlights their glitzy look.
Importantly, Prestige skins are purely cosmetic in League of Legends, offering absolutely no in-game advantages. Unlike Legendary, Epic, or Ultimate skins, Prestige skins cannot be bought with RP.
History Of Prestige Skins
The Prestige skin line began in 2018 when Riot released Prestige versions of the highly popular K/DA skins. At launch, the Prestige K/DA skins were met with a bit of negativity, as some players felt that they were merely golden chromas of Legendary skins that should have more to them.
That said, the popularity of the Prestige K/DA skins led to a significant expansion of the Prestige skin line in League of Legends that continues to this day.

How Do Prestige Skins Work In League of Legends?
Prestige skins in League work differently from when they were first released.
From 2019 to 2020, Prestige skins were earned with Prestige Points. These were obtained from special purchasable bundles (such as in Masterwork Chest Bundles) or from event passes. You needed to collect 100 Prestige Points to unlock a Prestige skin.
Toward the end of 2020, Prestige skins were moved to their own dedicated Prestige Shop, where players could spend their points. Prestige Points were time-limited, though, so if the points weren’t spent in the shop at the end of the year, they would disappear on January 1 of that year.
Mythic Essence System Explained
In 2022, the Prestige Point system was replaced with the Mythic Essence system. This came about due to criticism aimed at the annual expiration date. Players would be forced to grind in-game under a time limit if they wanted to obtain a Prestige skin.
The Mythic Essence system scrapped the time limit feature, making Prestige skins more obtainable for casual players. This system functions similarly to Prestige Points in the way that Mythic Essence is obtained (without the threat of losing essence if it hasn’t been spent by a certain time).

How To Get Prestige Skins In League of Legends
You get Prestige skins mainly by spending Mythic Essence in the Mythic Shop.
Mythic Essence can be earned in Premium Event passes, which you have to buy with RP (Riot Points), as well as in Hextech Chests (requires Hextech Keys), Masterwork Chests, and by reaching Masterwork Milestones by opening a certain number of chests (removed).
Hextech Chests have a 3.6% chance of containing 10 Mythic Essence, while Masterwork Chests have a 4.2% chance of holding 5 Mythic Essence. You also receive 10 Mythic Essence for every 50 Summoner Levels reached, up to Summoner Level 150.
Once you have enough Mythic Essence, you can spend it on Prestige skins in the Mythic Shop, which can be found under the Loot Tab on the home screen. Skins appear in the Mythic Shop on a rotating basis.
Best Way To Get Mythic Essence Efficiently
The best way to earn Mythic Essence in League is via Event Passes. Roughly 25 Mythic Essence can be earned in each pass, though some passes offer 25 to 50 Mythic Essence. You can also use accumulated event tokens to purchase Mythic Essence, with 125 Mythic Essence available for 2,200 Event Tokens at the Token Shop.
This means you’ll have to invest RP (usually around 1650 for the Premium Pass). Still, it’s the quickest and most efficient method in terms of how to obtain Prestige skins through Mythic Essence in League of Legends.

All Prestige Skins In League of Legends
There are plenty of League Prestige skins available, but you can’t get them all at once due to the rotating Mythic Shop. Some skins appear more often than others through bi-weekly and six-week rotations, but every Prestige skin eventually returns—so keep an eye out for the ones you want.
All Prestige skins listed below cost 150 Mythic Essence. Some skins released between 2019 and 2021 were reworked in 2022 and also cost 150 Mythic Essence, though players who owned the originals before Patch 12.5 received the updates for free. The only exception is Prestige Veiled Lady Morgana, which is earned as a Premium Battle Pass reward at Level 48 in Season 1, Act 1.

Are League of Legends Prestige Skins Worth It?
It really depends. The question of whether or not Prestige skins are worth it in League of Legends is a matter of personal preference. However, they are definitely geared towards less casual players due to the time and cost that it takes to get Mythic Essence and unlock them.
It’s also a feature specifically designed for those who are interested in the cosmetic aspects of the game. Players who aren’t fussed about skins, or who don’t spend enough time to grind for Mythic Essence, would probably prefer regular or even legacy skins if they want something other than the default look.
