How to Find Buried Treasure in Minecraft

Finding buried treasure in Minecraft is always an exciting activity. Whether it’s searching along the beach or diving deep under the ocean, treasure hunters are always on the move. And while it’s possible to stumble upon one of these rare buried treasures, the most common way of finding one is by using a treasure map Minecraft.

Today we’ll teach you how to find buried treasure in Minecraft, and discuss the best and most efficient ways of farming them.

Finding Treasure Maps

Before you start hunting for buried treasure, you first need to find a treasure map. There’s no magical Minecraft cheats to print these indefinitely, but instead you need to venture into the sea and look for them.

The easiest way to find buried treasure maps is by checking for chests at underwater shipwrecks and abandoned ocean ruins. These two locations can often generate chests containing a treasure map that leads to a buried treasure. The treasure maps have a fairly high chance of spawning inside the chest, so you’ll be able to farm them pretty reliably.

X Marks the Spot

Once you find a treasure map and open it, it will display a location on the map with a red X marking the buried treasure. Your job is to navigate to that location and dig out the chest. It’s unlikely these buried treasures will spawn at the bottom of the ocean, but they’re usually found along the beaches.

Here’s what you can find inside of a treasure chest:

ItemChance %
Heart of the Sea100%
Iron Ingot99.4%
Gold Ingot88%
Cooked Cod75%
Cooked Salmon75%
Potion of Water Breathing
66.7%
TNT62.7%
Emerald59.9%
Prismarine Crystals59.9%
Diamond59.9%
Leather Tunic25%
Iron Sword25%

As you can see, there’s some interesting items you can get from buried treasure so they’re always worth your time, especially if you’re specifically hunting for diamonds in Minecraft.

Heart of the Sea

The Heart of the Sea is a special item only received via buried treasure. It is a necessary ingredient for crafting a conduit, a special tool that provides conduit power and attacks monsters underwater.

Crafting a conduit requires the following materials:

  • Heart of the Sea
  • 8x Nautilus Shells

You already know how to find the Heart of the Sea, but getting all 8x Nautilus Shells will be a tad bit trickier. You can either farm drowned mobs in hopes of finding Nautilus Shells, but this will be a slow and tedious process as drowned mobs have a very low drop chance for shells.

Alternatively, you could purchase these from a Wandering Trader by exchanging 5x Emeralds for 5x Nautilus Shells. You’ll have to do the exchange twice, which might require a degree of patience since you must wait for the Wandering Trader to visit your base for the second time.
