Fortnite x SpongeBob: Leaks, Release Date, and Skins Explained

Key Points
  • A Fortnite x SpongeBob SquarePants crossover is rumored to launch sometime during Chapter 7.
  • SpongeBob has already collaborated with Fortnite before, with UEFN maps that include popular Bikini Bottom landmarks and classic SpongeBob-themed items.
  • If a collaboration does occur, it is likely to include a bunch of skins and cosmetics inspired by the SpongeBob SquarePants show.

Players have been asking, “Is SpongeBob coming to Fortnite?” after a wave of leaks began circulating online. While nothing has yet been confirmed by Epic Games, the reports have enough body to suggest the famous yellow sea sponge from Bikini Bottom will arrive in the battle royale game.

In this guide, we’ll explore all the Fortnite x SpongeBob SquarePants leaks, including where they originated and what the crossover could look like if it happens.

Is SpongeBob Coming To Fortnite In 2025?

Epic has not yet confirmed if SpongeBob is coming to Fortnite. Leaks regarding the supposed collaboration originated from @SamLeakss on X, noting that a crossover could feature an SUV and other cosmetics.

It’s worth noting that SamLeakss is a relatively reputable (though not top-tier) Fortnite leaker. However, HYPEX, arguably the most widely respected Fortnite leaker, doubled down on speculation about SpongeBob coming to Fortnite when he also posted about it on X.

While HYPEX certainly lends credibility to the leak, you should still take the information with a pinch of salt until the developers make an official announcement. Even so, the possibility of a SpongeBob Fortnite crossover is extremely plausible—though not without a few complications.

That’s because SpongeBob has already been featured in Fortnite through UEFN maps. While Epic has tons of assets on hand, though, the challenge is that he’s a character designed for kids. So, placing him in a game centered on gunplay is something Epic would need to navigate carefully.

What SpongeBob Skins And Characters Could Come To Fortnite?

In the event of another crossover, it’s safe to say that there’s no shortage of possible SpongeBob Fortnite skins. Let’s take a look at what we could see with a collab.

FeatureSpongeBob Character, Item, or LocationHow Likely Is It?
Skins• SpongeBob

• SquarePants

• Patrick Star

• Squidward Tentacles

• Sandy Cheeks

• Mr. Krabs

• Plankton

• Pearl Krabs

• Karen the Computer

• Mrs. Puff

• Mermaid Man

• Barnacle Boy

• Bubble Bass
Some of the SpongeBob Fortnite characters would require redesigns so they fit the skin model.

SpongeBob is quite small, so Epic could use his Invincibubble form from the “Sponge Out of Water” movie or the tall disguise from the “Chaperone” episode to make a skin work.

Plankton is even tinier, but his villainous personality makes a robotic mech a natural fit.
Emotes• Jellyfish Jam, one of the many dances from the show

• Specific character emotes (e.g., SpongeBob blowing bubbles, Patrick trying to play a jar of mayonnaise, Sandy practicing karate, Mr. Krabs counting money, etc.)
Dance emotes seem the most likely, as there are many iconic and meme-worthy dances from the show.
Pickaxes• SpongeBob’s spatula

• Jellyfishing net

• Bubble blowing wand

• Squidward’s clarinet

• The Krusty Krab sign pole
Items related to the Krusty Krab and SpongeBob’s hobbies are simple and easy picks for Pickaxe designs.
Back Blings• Gary the snail

• Chum Bucket bucket

• Krabby Patty burger

• Magic Conch shell

• Sandy’s helmet or an acorn

• Pearl’s pom poms

• A jellyfish

• A mini pineapple house

Mini versions of the characters could work as Back Blings rather than SpongeBob crossover skins in Fortnite, though using them this way instead of full skins feels wasteful.
The small designs of the characters would make them fantastic Back Blings, but it doesn’t seem as likely.

Items from the show, such as a Krabby Patty or jellyfish, seem more likely than characters as Back Blings.
Sidekicks• Gary the Snail

• Clam

• Worm

• Seahorse

• Jellyfish
Underwater creatures, such as worms and clams, are portrayed in the show as animal-like pets (e.g., worms are likened to dogs).
However, SpongeBob’s pet, Gary the Snail, seems like the most likely candidate for a
Fortnite Sidekick (although it’s unclear how they would work in terms of speed).
In-Game Items• Krabby Patty

• Chum Bucket chum

• Jellyfish net

• Spatula

• Krusty Krab Pizza
The most likely items to use in-game are the food items, such as the Krabby Patty, which could become consumables.
In-Game Weapons• Karate gear

• Nasty Patty

• Exploding pie

• Magic pencil

• Net gun

• Fish hooks

• Freeze ray

• Anchor arms
Surprisingly, there is a fair number of weapons that already exist in the SpongeBob universe.

Any of these would make for fun inclusions into Fortnite for the simple reason that they aren’t too violent.
Maps and POIs• Bikini Bottom

• Krusty Krab

• The Chum Bucket

• SpongeBob’s house

• Squidward’s house

• Patrick’s house

• Sandy’s house
It’s unclear how big the crossover would be, but even a smaller event could see part of the island transformed into Bikini Bottom.

The most likely locations to appear are SpongeBob’s house, Patrick and Squidward’s adjoining homes, and the Krusty Krab.

Will SpongeBob Have A Battle Royale Skin Set In Fortnite?

It is hard to know for sure whether a SpongeBob Fortnite crossover will include skins that you can obtain via the Battle Pass or if you will have to purchase them from the Item Shop with V-Bucks

Here are a few examples of how past cartoon crossovers handled their skin unlocks.

  • Adventure Time (Released April 2025): All skins, including Jake the Dog, Finn the Human, Princess Bubblegum, and Marceline, were available in the Item Shop.
  • Avatar the Last Airbender (Released April 2024): All skins except for Korra (Aang, Avatar State Aang, Zuko, Toph, and Katara) were purchasable from the Item Shop. Korra was available in the Battle Pass, but could only be unlocked after completing challenges.
  • The Simpsons (Released November 2025): The Simpsons Fortnite skins were split between the Item Shop and Battle Pass for the mini season. Homer, Marge, Ned Flanders, Springfield Peely, and Peelfessor Frink were Battle Pass skins, whereas Bart, Lisa, Krusty the Clown, Moe, and Scratchy the Cat were Item Shop skins.
  • TMNT (Released December 2023, February 2024, and April 2025 ): All skins (Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello, April Jones, Splinter, Shredder, Super Shredder, Rocksteady, Bebop, Casey Jones, and Krang’s Android) were available from the Item Shop.

As you can see, there isn’t much rhyme or reason as to which Fortnite skins are available from the Item Shop or Battle Pass.

Most characters from similar properties end up in the in-game shop. That said, there’s no fixed structure for these crossovers, as release timing and skin availability often change from one collab to the next.

When Is The SpongeBob Fortnite Release Date?

According to the leak by SamLeakss, SpongeBob is expected to arrive during Fortnite Chapter 7. There have also been leaks about other potential crossovers with big IPs, including Harry Potter and South Park.

If the leaks are true, then Chapter 7 is the most likely scenario for a SpongeBob Fortnite release date. Each chapter spans multiple seasons that last anywhere from 4–6 months, which means it’s almost impossible to tell if the collab will drop early in the season or later next year.
