Veto is the VALORANT Protocol’s newest agent (#29) and a disruptive force in agent design—his blend of suppression, mobility, and utility denial forces opponents to play around his kit rather than into it. He’s a male Sentinel who rewrites how teams approach utility-heavy executes by removing or neutralizing abilities mid-round.

This guide explains everything you need to master Veto in VALORANT, from his lore and origins to every ability and how they interact, practical play tips, the best maps for his kit, and ideal teammates that maximize his impact.

Who Is Veto In VALORANT?

Veto joined the roster as Agent 29 on October 7, 2025, debuting during VALORANT Champions Paris and releasing in the same week’s patch (V25 Act 5, v11.07b). Veto’s ethnicity is Senegalese, and Riot positioned him as a disciplined, mutation-powered enforcer whose specialty lies in ability suppression.

He seems to have a history with Tejo and ultimately joins the VALORANT Protocol because of him, after initially being recruited as a bodyguard for Phoenix’s sister, Mary. Veto’s release also aligns with the long-awaited launch of the VALORANT replay system.

Mechanically, Veto bridges Sentinel anchoring and proactive disruption. Unlike most Sentinels, who primarily hold sites, watch flanks, and stall pushes, he actively neutralizes enemy abilities. He can also reposition quickly, enabling both defensive plays and controlled aggression for his team.

VALORANT Veto Abilities Explained

As a VALORANT agent, Veto’s kit is built around denying and degrading opponent utility while offering a tactical teleport option and a high-impact ultimate.

NameDescriptionTypeDetails
Chokehold (Q)Deploys a fragment that creates a trap zone on impact. Enemies entering are held, Deafened and Decayed; traps can be destroyed pre-activation. You can buy one per round for 200 credits,UtilityOne-time use, lasts for five seconds, and can be broken before activation.
Crosscut (C)Place a beacon. While looking at it and in range, reactivate to teleport to its position. Beacon can be reclaimed and replaced elsewhere only in the Buy Phase and not during rounds. You can buy up to two of these, each costing 200 credits.UtilityOne-time use per charge, lasts the whole round until used or broken.
Interceptor (E)Place an anti-utility device that, when activated, destroys or negates enemy utility that would normally bounce or be destroyed by gunfire; the enemy can destroy the Interceptor. This is his default ability, and you get one charge at the beginning of each round.SignatureOnce placed, it remains until broken; the duration of the ability is 10 seconds. It recharges every 45 seconds.
Evolution (X)Mutate into a combat-stim state: grants regeneration, combat boost, and immunity to debuffs (flashes, stuns, and most utility) for a limited duration. Not immune to Jett’s Bladestorm, Neon’s Overdrive, and Chamber’s Headhunter and Tour de Force.UltimateLasts for the whole round until Veto dies. Needs 7 ultimate points.

Veto’s abilities split up the VALORANT map and force opponents to carefully time their executes. His kit creates windows where opponents cannot rely on utility, allowing his team to control the game’s pace.

Interceptor shuts down executes, Chokehold traps entries or rotations, Crosscut punishes overextensions before he quickly repositions. Finally, Evolution gives Veto the edge in duels, especially when enemy abilities are a threat.

Compared to Killjoy, Cypher, and Vyse, who are more about anchoring sites and watching flanks, Veto is more geared toward denying enemy agency—a unique tactical role in the current VALORANT meta besides maybe KAY/O.

How To Play Veto In VALORANT

1. Deny Enemy Abilities

Start rounds by placing Veto’s Interceptor on likely utility trajectories and at choke points where it cannot be easily broken (e.g., above doorways). You have to activate it manually, and if you time it right, you can shut down executes or post plants.

This Signature ability also punishes reliance on projectile and bounce utilities and can be incredible to deny post-plant (e.g., Brim’s Incendiary or Viper’s Snake Bite).

2. Anchor And Rotate With Crosscut

Place your beacons so you can quickly reposition after winning your first duel. Veto mains can use Crosscut for surprise rotations or safe repositions; however, it’s also valuable pre-round to reach elevated angles usually reserved for agents with vertical mobility, like Jett or Omen.

Unlike Jett or Chamber, though, Veto must maintain line of sight to his Crosscut beacon. This makes it more effective as a tool for rotations and conditional engagements rather than a true get-out-of-jail-free card.

3. Layer Suppression With Teammates

Coordinate Chokehold timing with recon agents or damage dealers like Raze or Breach to kill trapped enemies after they’re seized and decayed. Since this trap can be broken, it’s best to place it behind boxes or in tight corners and chokes. This is where the new VALORANT agent Veto truly shines in coordinated play.

4. Time Evolution For Maximum Swing

Evolution turns Veto into a high-durability initiator and clutch engine. While he can still go down to gunshots or abilities like Jett’s Bladestorm, Neon’s Overdrive, and Chamber’s Headhunter, he is impervious to flashes, stuns, and ultimates like Raze’s Showstopper or Breach’s Rolling Thunder

What’s more, the effect lasts until he dies after popping it, so in theory, it could span an entire round and generate some incredible stats. Ideally, you’ll want to activate it right before a team executes or before you head in for a retake. And if you’re asking “when does Veto release”—he’s already live!

What Is The Best VALORANT Map For Veto?

Veto excels on maps with narrow choke points and tight corners, such as Split, Bind, and Ascent. These are perfect environments where a well-placed Chokehold and Interceptor can stall and completely reroute entire executes.

On Ascent, areas like B Main, A Main, and A Short are key chokes, while on Split, spots like Mid Stairs and A Main can force enemies to burn utility. Having an agent to shut these down can easily swing a round in your favor.

Maps with heavy elevation, like Haven, Sunset, Abyss, and Bind (among others), also play to Veto’s strengths in VALORANT. You can use your teleport in the pre-round to hold very strong off-angles. In contrast, open maps like Breeze or Icebox are harder for Veto to extract maximum value from his kit.

Even so, his Interceptor and ultimate ability remain impactful tools on any map, and we can expect to see this agent in action during Ascension and the 2026 VALORANT Champions Tour season.

Best Agent Combos & Team Comps For Veto In VALORANT

The best partners for Veto in VALORANT are high-damage dealers, recon agents, or flex agents who can exploit suppressed opponents.

  • Sova / Fade: These agents reveal targets so you know when you can trigger your Interceptor. You can also play proactively off their utility.
  • Raze / Breach / Killjoy: Agents with damaging utility can punish slowed or rooted enemies after Chokehold triggers with a grenade or Aftershock.
Pro Tip
Veto’s abilities function as the glue between information and execution, forcing fights to be about aim and timing rather than utility layering.

Is Veto Good In VALORANT?

While Veto is strong and will heavily affect the gameplay meta, he has a very high skill ceiling in VALORANT. His utilities are destructible and require solid pre-placement and timing, with success depending heavily on his teammates capitalizing on the windows of opportunity he creates.

Veto should be extremely valuable in pro-play and even for coordinated 5-stacks, such as in Premier. Overall, Veto is high-impact in coordinated play and a high-skill, high-reward pick.
