Some of the biggest streamers in the world got their start in World of Warcraft; but can only stream it depending on the WoW server status. If you’ve ever seen more lag than normal in World of Warcraft or can’t even log in during normal circumstances, the servers might be down. During big updates, server queue times can be long but in your average day you’d expect to be able to get in with ease.

Obviously just because you can’t log in doesn’t mean that the servers are down, so you can do a couple of things after seeing that World of Warcraft server status is live.
Update days or the starts of events in WoW esports do cause some long delays to get through the server queue. Outside of that, if you’re having some login problems it might be that either you, or the server are having issues. Checking for Windows Updates to make sure your internet (Wi-Fi and wired) connections are up to date is a great start. And checking to see if the Battle.net, the Blizzard launcher is up to date is another starting point.
Also, Blizzard games often won’t update if Battle.net launcher isn’t up to date, so you may have thought you were on the latest WoW patch, even when you aren’t.

The official World of Warcraft Twitter/X will have updates on whether the server is down or experiencing issues. During big updates, there may be periods where the servers go down to for scheduled maintenance. Usually these will be Blizzard news both on official social medias, and in the game itself, either as a banner of some kind, or as an error message to give a rough window of the expected downtime.
It goes without saying, that you will not be able to log in during these times. It gives you a chance to take a break from the game, as healthy gaming helps balancing playtime with rest to avoid fatigue and maintain well-being.
However if there’s no official word, the best way to know is to see what the majority of the WoW active players are saying.
