Mortal Kombat Pro Kompetition – Biggest MK 1 Circuit

Mortal Kombat 1 has had one of the biggest launches for the series and it has coincided with a renewed interest in competitive MK. With most of the major fighters now boasting year-round circuits, developers have stepped things up for MK 1’s first year of esports. We’re getting the Mortal Kombat Pro Kompetition, an official circuit running year-round.

As one of the best fighting games in 2023, Mortal Kombat needs a circuit to compete. Big players are signing up for Capcom Cup and TWT, but the Mortal Kombat 1 Pro Kompetition offers a circuit for the goriest of fighters. As a brand-new event for 2023/24, it can be helpful to get a guide on how the tournament is going to run. This is what we know about the Pro Kompetition so far, who’s on the leaderboard, and where we’ll find the rest of your participants.

Mortal Kombat Pro Kompetition

The Mortal Kombat Pro Kompetition is a brand-new circuit for the game. It’s broken down into a few key stages. We’ll have this season of events for the tournament where the top players compete in each region. These events will run at fighting game esports events and maybe some new independent tournaments just for MK. These events will allow competitors to compete for their spot at the Pro Kompetition.

In terms of the format, there is an ongoing leaderboard for all affiliated events. Players taking part will gain points for each of these majors. At the end, the top-ranking players will move on to the grand finals. The top 9 players from the leaderboard move directly forward. 2 more come from the North America Regional Finals, 4 via the Interkontinental Kombat Regional Finals, and Liga Latina Regional Finals. Finally, one more player will gain their slot from the Last Chance Qualifier.

Qualifiers

Those are the qualifiers we’ve seen announced so far. Who are the standout players that we’ve seen so far? East Coast Throwdown saw a pretty predictable result for Mortal Kombat, SonicFox dominated. However,  Tekken Master has also taken an early win at Ultimate Fighting Arena. Both are on the higher end of the leaderboard thanks to these qualifiers.

That’s how it works for offline. For online qualifiers, we’re still a bit more in the dark. There are some offlien qualifiers planned. However, we’ll have to wait and see what form these take further down the line.

Final Kombat – The Grand Finals

That’s how we’ll find the Mortal Kombat Pro Kompetition competitors, but what will the Grand Finals be? This is where we’ll see the year’s top players competing together. It’ll be a big blowout where all of the international players compete in a single tournament, to find the victor in the very first circuit and esports year for Mortal Kombat 1.

We don’t know entirely how the Grand Finals will work just yet. However, we’re likely to get more information on this as we get closer to the end of the circuit in 2024.

Who’s Competing in the Mortal Kombat Pro Kompetition?

While there are still quite a few unknowns about the Mortal Kombat Pro Kompetition Grand Finals, the competitors have some stand outs already. Since this is based on a leaderboard for qualification we won’t be sure until we see some more qualifiers. However, there are some players in the lead.

So far, SonicFox is definitely one of the biggest names to watch. As a multiple-time EVO winner, the player is top of the list for most expectations on this tournament. We might also see names like Ninjakilla_212 and Xombat in the eventual Grand Finals.
