The Esports World Cup is set to be one of our biggest tournaments of the year, with event for tons of major titles. They’ll also be including quite a few major fighting games here. One of the biggest will be Tekken 8 EWC 2024 event.
Out of our current major fighting game esports, there’s a handful which have been dominating sign ups and attention. Tekken 8 is one of the biggest, only releasing earlier this year. This tournament at the Esports World Cup will be a unique event. It’s an international tournament where 32 of the best players will come together. It also features a very impressive prize pool, going up to $1,000,000. How will the Tekken 8 EWC tournament work?

The build-up to the Esports World Cup 2024 has been exciting. We’ve gradually gotten confirmation of the games, teams, and now the tournament being held across the 9 week schedule. Far from being a token event, the World Cup this year will be a huge tournament. For events like Tekken 8, it’s particularly exciting.
While we have wider circuits like the Tekken World Tour, but the EWC 2024 tournament is going to feature a similarly huge prize pool without a year-long qualification process. What can we expect from the tournament? It’s broken into a three phase format, a bit different from most fighting game esports events.
The first is a Group Stage. Here, the 32 players are moved into 8 groups. 16 go forward to the second phase. This is another Group stage, where only 8 players go forward. The final phase is our Top 8 bracket, but this time being played in a single elimination format.
Prize Pool
That’s how the tournament breaks down, but what’s at stake to be won here? There’s a great prize pool for the Tekken 8 EWC 2024 tournament. These are the prizes for each placing player:
- 1st – $300,000
- 2nd – $140,000
- 3-4th – $75,000
- 5-8th – $45,000
- 9-12th – $20,000
- 13-16th – $12,500
- 17-24th – $7,500
- 25-32th – $5,000

Who exactly is attending the Tekken 8 EWC 2024 tournament? We only know the first handful of names so far. The players taking part are earning their place through a handful of separate tournaments. The first batch came from EVO Japan Tekken 8. Another 16 are coming from DreamHack tournaments Top 8s.
We then have two more from Battle Arena Melbourne, two from Super Tournamnet, CEO, the MIXUP, and Rlyadh Festival.

When is the Tekken 8 EWC Tournament?
That’s the main details we’ve seen announced for this tournament so far. It’s all taking place over August 22-25! The Esports World Cup is a pretty sizeable tournament, with event for loads of different games. Tekken 8 won’t even be the only fighting game available.
