Valve released CS2 on September 27, 2023, replacing CS:GO entirely for both casual players and professionals. Nearly six months later, the first CS2 Major Championship took place at the Royal Arena venue in Copenhagen, exceeding expectations with unforgettable plays that went the full distance.

NAVI Wins PGL Major Copenhagen 2024
In October 2023, NAVI made headlines when Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev—the undisputed GOAT of CS:GO—stepped down from the active roster. By the time PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 began on March 17, NAVI was still seen as a team in transition, entering the event ranked #6.
Starting in the Elimination Stage, NAVI barely survived with a 3-2 score to make it to the Playoffs. In the Quarterfinals of the single-elimination bracket, however, they flourished, beating the Turkish side Eternal Fire 2-0 (16-13 on Mirage, 13-9 on Inferno).
By the Semifinals, NAVI edged out G2 Esports 2-1 (16-13 on Anubis, 7-13 on Nuke, and 13-11 on Ancient). However, the Grand Final set them against the ultimate final boss: FaZe Clan, a team ranked #1 in the world at the time. NAVI struck first, securing Ancient 13-9 to take the lead.
FaZe Clan demolished NAVI on Mirage with a 13-2 to set up a third and deciding map. On Inferno, the Ukrainian side returned the favor, breaking FaZe Clan with a 13-3 win to close out the Grand Final, becoming the first-ever CS2 Major champions.

Team Spirit Wins Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024
Team Spirit kicked off their journey in the Elimination Stage of the Perfect World Shanghai Major, thanks to their #4 ranking at the time. After suffering a shocking 13-6 defeat against FURIA on Dust2, Team Spirit managed to bounce back in style.
Running through Wildcard (13-6 on Ancient), smashing favorites NAVI (13-2 on Mirage), and beating HEROIC 2-1 (16-14 on Ancient, 10-13 on Mirage, and 13-7 on Dust2), Team Spirit secured a 3-1 score in the Elimination Stage to secure a spot in the Playoffs.
Taking to the stage at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center for the single-elimination bracket, Team Spirit sent Team Liquid packing 2-0 (13-9 Anubis, 13-11 Dust2) in the Quarterfinals. After going down 0-1 in the Semifinals against MOUZ, Team Spirit pulled off a reverse-sweep to claim a Grand Final spot.
In the Grand Final of the Perfect World Shanghai Major, Team Spirit faced FaZe Clan. On the first map, Nuke, Team Spirit came out on top with a 13-8 score. FaZe Clan retaliated on Ancient with a convincing 13-6 win.
Dust2 was the decider, where Team Spirit found a surprising 8-4 lead on the CT side. Despite some close rounds and a comeback attempt from FaZe Clan, it was Team Spirit who narrowly came out on top with a 13-11 score, thereby winning the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024.

Team Vitality Wins BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025
As the clear favorites and #1 team globally at the time, Team Vitality had won six S-Tier LAN event trophies in a row, leading up to the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025. However, in the Elimination Stage, Brazilian underdogs Legacy broke Team Vitality’s 30-match win streak on Inferno with a 13-3 win.
The upset was so unexpected that many thought Team Vitality’s win streak would end in Austin—but they were wrong. As if inspired by the loss, the French titans bounced back to beat Nemiga 13-6 on Dust2, destroy 3DMAX 13-2 on Nuke, and wipe VP with a clean 2-0 (13-6 on Train, 13-6 on Dust2).
With a 3-1 score in the Elimination Stage, Team Vitality advanced to the Playoffs. They beat NAVI 2-0 (13-9 on Mirage, 13-11 on Nuke) in the Quarterfinals, before securing a 2-1 win against MOUZ in the Semifinals (13-8 on Mirage, 4-13 on Inferno, and 13-6 on Train) to claim a spot in the Grand Final.
In the BLAST.tv Austin Major Grand Final, underdogs The MongolZ stunned Team Vitality by convincingly winning the first map (13-5 on Mirage). But when it mattered most, Team Vitality showed their big-match temperament, with ZywOo and ropz leading the charge.
Team Vitality took the Mongolian side to the cleaners, crushing their hopes with decisive wins on Dust2 (13-4) and Inferno (13-6) to complete the reverse-sweep comeback and lift the coveted trophy.

At DreamHack Winter 2013 (November 28-30, 2013) in Jönköping, Sweden, Valve introduced the first-ever CS:GO Major Championships—now simply referred to as Majors. The CS:GO competitive circuit then ran for a decade, concluding shortly after the release of CS2 in late 2023.
