Bloodseeker Dota 2 Guide – Harness the power of blood in 7.14

Bloodseeker is a carry who excels at ganking enemies and chasing them down. He gains movement speed from any enemies who are low on HP across the map and can move faster than any other hero.

He lacks any forms of disable other than the silence from Blood Rite and as such, enemies can usually teleport away from him when affected by Rupture. As such, he often relies on his team to effectively gank or team-fight. His item build is very flexible and he can adapt to many different situations.

Complete Bloodseeker Spell guide

Bloodrage

Bloodseeker causes the target to gain increased attack damage but at the cost of taking as much bonus damage. Whenever a cursed target kills a unit, it heals for a percentage of its max health. When killed, they will heal a percentage of their max health to their killer. If the target is within 300 units of a dying hero, it will receive 50% of the healing. The spell can be cast on enemies or allied units, although the damage amp is halved when the damage dealer and target are over 2200 units apart.

This spell is usually maxed lastly after getting one point in it early so that it can be used to heal you during the laning phase. It isn’t very useful after that, since the damage increase can be quite risky and it’s usually better in the early game to skill your other spells which aren’t percentage based.

Be very careful about when you use this spell, as it can make you or your allied target very squishy. Similarly, when used on an ally, it can potentially make them deal enough damage to burst you or an ally down quick enough. In general, try to use it on yourself before you kill a creep so that you can heal yourself up. In team-fights, look for creeps which are nearby when you get low on health to heal you. You can also use it on yourself when ganking an enemy as it will make Rupture, Blood Rite and your attacks deal more damage. When enemies get Linken’s Sphere, you can use Bloodrage on them to make them vulnerable to Rupture.

Blood Rite

Bloodseeker paints the target area with blood which silences and deals damage to all enemies in the area of effect after a short delay. Blood Rite is usually maxed secondly because it provides you with a strong nuke and long silence which makes it much easier to gank enemies when Rupture is off cooldown. It can be used to clear creepwaves and jungle camps and also can be used as a zoning spell against fleeing or chasing enemies.

Thirst

Bloodseeker gains increased movement speed and attack damage based on how low on health his enemies are. Thirst has global range but only affects Bloodseeker if the enemy is below 75% health. At 25% health, Bloodseeker and his allies gain true sight and vision of the hero. This spell allows Bloodseeker to move faster than the usual movement speed cap which most heroes have. This spell is usually maxed firstly because it allows Bloodseeker to chase enemies down much more easily, and grants him a lot more attack damage.

Rupture

Bloodseeker ruptures the skin of the target enemy, causing it to take damage based on the distance the target travels. Aghanim’s Scepter grants this spell 2 charges each with a 40 second cooldown. The damage pierces spell immunity, which makes this a great spell against BKB carriers and other magic immune targets. If an enemy moves more than 1300 distance between each of the 0.25 second checks, then no damage is applied. This allows heroes with Blink spells such as Anti-Mage or Queen of Pain to Blink away without taking damage.

Talents

Level 10: +25 Attack Speed or +4 Armor

The extra attack speed is almost always preferred at level 10, as it allows you to farm faster and to deal more damage to enemies. Effectively, it allows you to carry a lot harder. The extra armor is usually not a better option, because it isn’t much armor compared to the attack speed. However, if you are facing lots of physical damage dealers, then the armor may be more effective. Even then, the attack speed can be good, but if you are going for a magical damage build, then the attack speed may be less effective.

Level 15: +75 Blood Rite Damage or +300 Health

The extra health is usually a bit better because it helps to keep you alive. The extra Blood Rite damage can also be very strong however, especially against enemies who can’t easily escape it or against heroes who summon creeps or illusions. It can also be quite strong against enemies who have high magic resistance, since the damage is pure and will help to nuke them down a lot faster. If you don’t need the extra health, then the Blood Rite damage can be very useful.

Level 20: 25% Lifesteal or +14% Rupture Damage

The Rupture damage can be good if you are able to use the spell effectively in team-fights. It can be very strong against enemies who have magic immunity, as they will take more damage when trying to escape or chase your team. If the damage of Rupture isn’t enough as is, then you should consider the extra damage. Otherwise, the 25% lifesteal is quite a lot and will help to keep you alive in team-fights.

Level 25: +20 Max Thirst MS and Damage or -6s Blood Rite Cooldown

In most cases, the extra Thirst movement speed and damage is a better and more reliable choice. It makes it much easier for you to chase and kite enemies down and allows you to deal a lot more damage. The reduced Blood Rite cooldown reduction halves the cooldown of the spell which can be useful in certain situations. For example, it is very helpful in defending towers and can be very effective against illusion or creep summon heroes as well as against casters, as it allows them to be silenced very often.

What Items to build on Bloodseeker

Starting Items

  • Stout Shield
  • Quelling Blade
  • Tango
  • Healing Salve
  • Iron Branch
  • Enchanted Mango
  • Faerie Fire

Bloodseeker usually farms the safe lane in Dota 2 esports. You should get enough health regen for your lane, and an Enchanted Mango can be good on him, as it allows him to use his spells in lane in case he runs out of mana. A Stout Shield allows you to trade hits more effectively in lane and farm the jungle a bit more effectively. A Quelling Blade can be strong on him, as it makes it easier to last-hit lane and neutral creeps. This can be important because the faster you can kill creeps, the sooner you will be able to heal from Thirst. This may allow you to make some clutch plays in team-fights, where you survive through the healing after killing a creep.

Early Game Items

Magic Wand

A Magic Wand can be a good item on Bloodseeker because he has the potential to gain a lot of charges when he goes for ganks with Rupture. However, it may be a waste of gold if you’re playing against a line-up with not many spells.

Ring of Aquila

A Ring of Aquila is a great item to pick up on Bloodseeker because it grants him a lot of useful stats. The damage and agility are great in the early game, and the armor and mana regeneration are also very valuable. Overall, it’s a great value item to get on him.

Power Treads

Power Treads are usually gotten on Bloodseeker because he doesn’t need the movement speed bonus from Phase Boots, and the attack speed and agility increase his DPS. He can also tread switch to intelligence when he needs to cast his spells to help manage his mana-pool.

Mid Game Items

Radiance

A Radiance can be a great item on Bloodseeker because it effectively allows you to deal damage to enemies without necessarily getting close to them. This can be good because sometimes it can be risky to get close to enemies, for instance if they have strong physical damage or close ranged spells or if they are stood underneath their towers. The extra damage also helps you to farm other items, and the evasion will help to tank you up against physical damage dealers.

Blade Mail

A Blade Mail is a great item on Bloodseeker because you can use it very effectively by activating it after using Rupture and Blood Rite on an enemy. This will return any damage that the target deals to you, making them die a lot quicker if they choose to defend themselves in any way. The extra armor and damage are also very helpful mid game stats.

Sange and Yasha

A Sange and Yasha are great mid game items that really help you to fight in the mid game. The extra movement speed stacks nicely with your already high movement speed, and Greater Maim from Sange allows you to control and chase down your opponents far more easily. The extra strength will also tank you up a bit. Overall, it’s a very efficient item which provides a lot of stats and makes you even better at taking mid game fights which is what Bloodseeker excels at.

Eul’s Scepter of Divinity

A Eul’s Scepter of Divinity is an item which is commonly purchased on Bloodseeker. It’s mostly purchased because it makes it much easier to land Blood Rite provides you with a form of interruption against enemy teleports. This can be a very strong item if you have very few stuns on your team, since enemies will often be able to teleport back to base after being Ruptured. The mana regeneration will also allow you to use Blood Rite as a farming tool, as you’ll have the mana to use it more often.

Late Game Items

Black King Bar

A Black King Bar is often needed on Bloodseeker because he is quite vulnerable to stuns and roots. Although he has the potential to gain very high movement speed, it can sometimes be risky to move in to the middle of fights after Rupturing a target. This is because the hero doesn’t have that much health without strength items, and a BKB really helps him against magical damage nukes.

Aghanim’s Scepter

An Aghanim’s Scepter can be a great item to get on Bloodseeker if Rupture is proving to be very strong against their cores. The spell can potentially be used to stop enemy carries in their tracks and prevent them from chasing your team down or fleeing. Reduced cooldowns and two charges will give this spell more up-time and can be used to prevent two enemies from moving or one from moving for twice as long. This item can easily turn Bloodseeker into one of the hardest Dota 2 heroes to deal with.

Octarine Core

An Octarine Core gives you a lot of spell lifesteal which can be very strong if you have the decreased Blood Rite cooldown at level 25 or if you have items such as Dagon or Aghanim’s Scepter. If enemies move during Rupture, you will heal for quite a lot of health and the decreased cooldowns will keep you casting these spells. With an Aghanim’s Scepter, the cooldowns of the charges will be decreased even further, down to only 30 seconds.

Butterfly

A Butterfly gives Bloodseeker a massive boost to his physical DPS. The extra evasion is also very strong against physical damage dealers who don’t have true-strike or accuracy, and often allows you to fight the enemy toe-to-toe.

Eye of Skadi

An Eye of Skadi provides you with a massive increase to all of your stats. The attack and movement speed slow also help you to deal with any farmed carries, especially ones that are hard to lockdown. If you need to tank up, deal a bit more damage and have a bit more control in team-fights, then an Eye of Skadi is the perfect item.

Abyssal Blade

An Abyssal Blade can be a very strong item on Bloodseeker because it provides him chance to bash enemies as well as with a reliable stun which pierces magic immunity. This prevents the enemy from being able to teleport away from you after being Ruptured as easily. The Vanguard component also helps to tank you up a lot against physical damage.

Situational Items

Nullifier

A Nullifier can be a great item on Bloodseeker because it provides a large increase to his physical damage and also increases his armor. The active ability can be incredibly strong against heroes who rely on items to survive your onslaught. For example, many heroes may use a Eul’s Scepter of Divinity after being ruptured to avoid the damage and silence from Blood Rite, and it also prevents any other defensive item use. Most heroes get it to deal with magic immunity from BKB, but Rupture is quite good at dealing with this anyway. Mostly, it’s purchased if you need to prevent the enemy from using items which are causing you or your team issues.

Linken’s Sphere

A Linken’s Sphere can be a strong item if you are playing against some very strong single-target disables. Bloodseeker is especially vulnerable to strong disables since he needs to move in close to the enemy team to finish them off and is also quite squishy unless he builds many strength items.

Heart of Tarrasque

A Heart of Tarrasque will provide you with a massive boost to your health and tank you up considerably. The health regen can also be very strong if you are frequently brought low on health, but can move in and out of fights quite easily.

Monkey King Bar

A Monkey King Bar provides you with a large amount of accuracy which can be very helpful against heroes with evasion. The attack speed and damage increase are also very beneficial for a right-click build.

Mjollnir

A Mjollnir can be good if you need to deal with heroes that can spawn illusions or creeps and particularly so if you are able to tank a fair amount of damage. The lightning procs will help to clear these units as well as deal lots of damage to the enemy team overall, and with Bloodrage, you can potentially heal a lot in team-fights.

Battlefury

A Battlefury is a less popular item on Bloodseeker because he doesn’t really need it to farm since he isn’t as strong in the late game as he is in the mid game. However, if your team has no answer to a strong illusion or creep spawning hero, then a Battle Fury can potentially be a very helpful item.

Dagon

A Dagon can be a strong item if you have gone for a more magic damage based build with items such as Aghanim’s Scepter and Octarine Core in addition to the magic damage talents. It can help to quickly burst down an enemy hero from a distance without having to commit to moving dangerously close to them. You can also use Dagon on a creep if it will kill them to heal yourself up through Bloodrage as a means to easily heal yourself. You can also use Bloodrage on an enemy target to make them take even more damage from the Dagon, which is particularly deadly at higher levels of the item.

Moon Shard

Silver Edge

A Silver Edge can work very well on Bloodseeker if you’re playing against enemies with strong passives that make them harder to take down. When ganking enemies, try to break invisibility with an attack to get the bonus damage and break applied before using either Rupture or Blood Rite.

Interesting Bloodseeker Match-ups

Heroes with invulnerability

Heroes such as Storm Spirit, Faceless Void, Morphling and Ember Spirit all have mobility spells which also provides invulnerability. This makes it quite easy for them to escape from Rupture in most cases, and as such you should generally try to avoid using Rupture on them.

Brewmaster

Brewmaster can easily use Primal Split when affected by Rupture. Blood Rite can be used to silence him, but in most cases he will buy an item which such as Lotus Orb or BKB which can purge him of the silence. This will effectively waste the Rupture, as he will be able to move in Primal Split.

Abaddon

Abaddon can use his ultimate ability when brought low by, or at all affected by Rupture. This will effectively heal him up to full health, as he can walk around as much as he wants. He can also use Aphotic Shield on any enemies affected by the silence from Blood Rite. Lastly, he can also purchase an Aghanim’s Scepter which makes any damage his allies take around him be partially redirected to him. This can potentially allow his allows to negate half of the damage from Rupture and move much farther then they otherwise would be able to.

Wraith King

In many cases, Rupturing Wraith King won’t do much, as he can usually bring himself back to life with his ultimate. If his ultimate is on cooldown however, it may be a good to prevent him from fleeing.

Puck

Puck can use Illusory Orb to jump more than the 1300 unit distance check from Rupture to move out of harm’s way and can use Phase Shift to dodge the silence from Blood Rite. Her ultimate ability Dream Coil can also make it very hard for Bloodseeker to move around in team-fights.

Queen of Pain

Queen of Pain’s Blink ability is exactly 1300 units, which means that if she Blinks the maximum distance and walks even at all, she will not take damage from Rupture. This is somewhat hard to do consistently, but be careful about using Rupture on her. She also tends to buy either a Eul’s Scepter of Divinity or BKB which she can use to avoid the silence from Blood Rite.

Anti-Mage

At level 15, Anti-Mage may choose the extra Blink Cast range. The added range from this talent allows him to blink farther than 1300 units, making him a bad target for Rupture. However, if he chooses the extra agility or hasn’t reached level 15 yet, he is very vulnerable to Rupture and should be ganked as often as possible.

Slark

Slark will not be able to passively heal from the passive component from his ultimate ability if he is below 25% health. This is because he will at all times be revealed by Thirst. This also means that he is much easier to chase down when low on health, and makes it much harder for him to move in and out of team-fights, as he will have a harder time healing back up.

Forced movement

Any allied hero who can manipulate the enemy’s movement such as Magnus, Pudge or Vengeful Spirit are great teammates for Bloodseeker. This is because after they have been Ruptured, if they are then caught by any of these spells, they will take a massive amount of damage.

Invisibility

Enemy heroes who have invisibility are instantly revealed if they fall below 25% health. This makes it significantly easier to chase down heroes such as Riki and Bounty Hunter, as your entire team will see them across the map.
