Juggernaut Dota 2 Hero Guide for Patch 7.18
Juggernaut is a powerful mid game carry who excels in team-fights due to the nature of his powerful spells. The hero needs relatively few items to be effective and is most powerful when he is farmed and before the enemy carries become too farmed. This is because he doesn’t naturally scale very well into the late game. Much of his team-fight potential comes from Omnislash, which means he isn’t always reliable, since the spell can be quite easily dodged and you may also have some bad luck when using it. Blade Fury is an incredibly powerful early and mid game spell, as it provides magic immunity and can be sued to dish out a large amount of damage to several enemies at once. Blade Dance helps you to transition into the late game and still remain quite relevant, despite other carries often being more viable.
He can push very effectively and can also help his team take Roshan with ease due to Healing Ward. His item build is also very flexible, which allows him to purchase whatever items are most suitable. His base attack time is also lower than most heroes’ which makes him very strong in the laning phase and mid game. Overall, he’s a very effective mid game carry who excels in team-fights and ending the game before the late game.

Complete Juggernaut Spell guide
Blade Fury
Juggernaut spins around with his blade, dealing damage to any enemy who stays nears you. Juggernaut is magic immune for the duration and the spell applies a basic dispel upon cast. Blade Fury should always be maxed firstly because it provides Juggernaut with massive kill potential in the early game. The damage can help you kill almost any hero if an ally helps you with a disable. Each point decreases the cooldown and increases the damage which makes it very valuable to max this first.
Past the early game, try to use Blade Fury mostly for the magic immunity it provides you with. You can use it in advance to avoid taking damage or being disabled. You can attack enemies during Blade Fury, but you will do no damage unless it is a building or the hero is magic immune. However, you will still proc any attack modifiers on any hero who you attack. The inherent magic immunity from Blade Fury is often enough to make a BKB not as important on the hero. However, it can still be good in many situations, and Jugg often needs other defensive items. Blade Fury allows Juggernaut to split-push or pressure towers very effectively by using it to clear a creep-wave quickly and teleporting out before its effects end. Just be careful of enemies who have spells which penetrate magic immunity.
Healing Ward
Juggernaut summons a Healing Ward which regenerates the health of any allied unit near the ward. Jugg has full control of the movement of the Healing Ward and it can be destroyed by a single attack. This spell is usually maxed secondly as it can be used to help your team take objectives and team-fights more easily in the early and mid game. The Healing Ward affects creeps which makes it very effective when pushing towers, and it makes taking Roshan very easy.
The Healing Ward moves quite quickly, but it can be killed in one hit, so try to micro it effectively. By default, it will follow you around, but you may want to move it independently from your hero to make it harder for enemies to destroy it. You can right-click it onto an ally on low health to help restore their health and get them back into a fight also. The Healing Ward has a short delay when killed where it will continue to heal nearby allied units. A very effective method of protecting the HealingWard is to move it inside a nearby tree-line such that it will continue to heal you but be out of vision of your allies. The spell has a very long cooldown, which means you need to be very careful about how you use it, since it can potentially be wasted.
Blade Dance
Juggernaut’s attacks have a chance to deal critical damage. This passive is usually maxed lastly after getting a value-point in it in the early game. This is because it scales with Jugg’s damage which makes it weaker in the early game. There are few circumstances where it’s more effective to max Blade Dance over Healing Ward. Blade Dance helps Juggernaut to be an effective mid-to-late game carry. However, it ultimately fails to keep him relevant into the very late game because of his reliance upon Omnislash. During the laning phase, it can be very effective to attack the enemy whenever you can in hopes of getting a crit off to deal a lot of harass damage. It’s also very easy to do so with Jugg’s high attack speed and Phase Boots.

@ Valve
Omnislash
Juggernaut becomes completely invulnerable and untargetable, repeatedly striking the target enemy. The number of strikes increases with each skill-point, and Juggernaut can jump to nearby enemies. If the struck enemy is a creep, he will instantly kill it. Each strike deals around 200 physical damage and Juggernaut will attack regularly in-between the Omnislashes as well. Omnislash is one of the most deadly spells in the game if soaked entirely by a single hero. However, it can be dodged or avoided by several items and spells and can also be rendered quite ineffective due to nearby creeps or heroes. Juggernaut greatly relies upon this spell in team-fights, although it has a very long cooldown and can be hard to use and easily wasted. Even so, this is still one of the most fun spells in all of Dota 2 esports.
Tips & Tricks:
The spell will almost always guarantee you a solo-kill when used on an isolated hero, and when the spell is off cooldown, you should almost always be looking to take a fight or find a kill on an important hero. It can be good to use the spell after baiting out a spell or item which makes them harder to kill such as Black King Bar or Rage. This is because you will be able to deal a massive amount of damage to them regardless and they won’t be able to be as aggressive since they’ll be taking a lot of damage. It can also be great to use the spell when you have been initiated upon or are being focused down since it will help to keep you alive for several more seconds and you can potentially survive a fight this way.
There are a number of spells and items which can make Omnislash ineffective. You should always try to watch out for these and use it after they have been used or if it’s unlikely that they will be able to use them, for instance if they are disabled or out of range. The spell scales incredibly well into the late game because of the fact that you will attack the enemy in between Omnislashes, which essentially allows you to attack uninterrupted for several seconds. You will also apply any attack modifiers to each enemy you damage.
The Best Juggernaut Talents
Level 10: +5 All Stats or +20 Movement Speed
In general, the extra stats are almost always preferred at level 10. It’s a helpful yet relatively small boost to your stats, providing about 100 health, 50 mana, 1 armor and a small amount of damage. The extra movement speed can be helpful if you’re playing against many heroes who are fast or who have spells which you need to try to evade.
Level 15: +1s Blade Fury or +25 Attack Speed
The extra attack speed is almost always more impactful for several reasons. It helps you to farm faster and deal more damage in team-fights, and can also help you to get more procs off in case you purchased an item like Monkey King Bar or Skull Basher. The extra Blade Fury second is rarely stronger than the extra attack speed, but it might be helpful if you’re playing against a massive amount of magical damage or disables. However, even in these cases, the attack speed will probably help you to carry more effectively.
Level 20: +10 Armor or +100 Blade Fury DPS
The extra armor is usually significantly more impactful. This is because it helps you to tank up against the carries on the enemy team and scales better into the late game. The extra Blade Fury DPS can be helpful if you are able to effectively damage several enemies at once. For instance, it can be good if you have an Enigma or Magnus, but these situations are very rare, and even in these situations the extra armor is almost always great.
Level 25: +600 Health or +5 Omnislash Strikes
The extra Omnislash slashes is almost always the stronger talent because in addition to being significantly more damage output, it will also allow you to attack enemies in between the slashes for longer. It makes the spell much stronger and will almost always help to bring down a farmed enemy carry quickly or it will just allow you to deal more damage to the enemy team in total. The extra health can be good if you are taking very long fights, or if Omnislash is proving to not be very effective against the enemy team.
What Items to build on Juggernaut
Starting Items
- Iron Branch
- Stout Shield
- Tango
- Healing Salve
- Enchanted Mango
Juggernaut needs basic regeneration and always benefits from having an Enchanted Mango. This is because it covers the mana-cost of a Blade Fury which may allow you to use it when you otherwise may not have the mana cost to do so. This can result in you getting kills you otherwise wouldn’t have and may help you to survive ganks more easily and climb Dota 2 ranks. If you’re having trouble last-hitting, you can buy a Quelling Blade to help you. Juggernaut has very good base attack time which means he can attack a lot faster than most other heroes in the laning phase. This means that you can trade hits with most enemies very effectively, especially if you have a Stout Shield. Just be wary of burning too much regen in doing so.
Early Game Items
Phase Boots
Phase Boots are almost always the preferred boots on Juggernaut. They provide a bit more damage but more importantly, they provide a large increase to his movement speed. This is important because it helps him to position himself during Blade Fury. The extra movement speed also helps him to move in and out of fights very easily, and makes it easier for him to catch enemies out with Omnislash. It also makes him quite hard to lockdown, since he can use Blade Fury defensively and escape with high movement speed. They also work quite well with Juggernaut’s low base attack time, since he can attack enemies quite effectively while chasing them.
Ring of Aquila
A Ring of Aquila provides Jugg with lots of nice early game stats. It’s quite strong on him because he benefits a lot from the item. Besides a myriad of stats, it also helps him to push towers and fight in the early game, since the mana regeneration will help you to cast Blade Fury and Healing Ward. The latter spell will also help you to push even more, since creeps will be benefiting from both the extra armor aura and the healing aura of the ward. Overall, it’s a great early game item which should be gotten in almost every game.
Magic Wand
A Magic Wand is a great item on Juggernaut because it provides burst health and mana regen which can be helpful in affording Juggernaut more mana to cast his spells. His spells are very important to his ability to contribute to team-fights, and the ability to restore enough mana to cast any one of them can be very helpful.
Yasha
A Yasha is a very strong item on Juggernaut and can be built into stronger items later in the game. It provides more damage, attack speed and movement speed, which help Juggernaut to farm faster and helps him to team-fight more effectively. The extra movement speed helps him to chase enemies down with Omnislash and Blade Fury and also escape enemies more easily.
Battle Fury
A Battle Fury can be a strong early game item on Juggernaut. It works quite well on Juggernaut for a few reasons. Firstly, he benefits a lot from the health and mana regeneration, as they help to sustain his spells in the early and mid game. Juggernaut’s base attack time also allows him to flash-farm quite effectively in the early and mid game, as he can bring down neutrals and creep-waves very quickly, especially if you proc your critical hits. Lastly, it helps Juggernaut to split-push very effectively. Healing Ward allows him to sustain his creeps and take a tower very easily, and he can usually use Blade Fury to safely teleport away if enemies come to stop his push. It’s especially strong against heroes who spawn illusions or creeps. The damage from Omnislash is also cleaved to nearby enemies, but this isn’t always very notable.
It can be very good to get Power Treads with Battle Fury instead of Phase Boots, as they help him to farm faster and allow him to scale into the mid and late game a bit more effectively. A Battle Fury build also generally promotes a play-style which isn’t necessarily as focused on team-fighting, which makes Phase Boots less necessary.

Mid Game Items
Sange and Yasha
Sange and Yasha provide Juggernaut with many small buffs. Most notably, he gains more damage, a chance to slow enemies, more health and more movement speed. It’s a great item to get if you are fighting a lot in the early and mid game. It helps Jugg to end the game before it gets too late and effectively makes him a stronger mid game carry.
Blink Dagger
A Blink Dagger can be a great item to get on Juggernaut. This is because it can be used to very quickly close the gap on an enemy who is alone, as you can use Omnislash on them to deal massive damage and almost always get easy kills. It’s also very strong because you can use Blade Fury to evade magic damage, and unless enemies have a way to physically attack you, you will simply be able to Blink away from danger after the 3 second cooldown. Similarly, you will be able to Blink away from enemies during Omnislash, since you will be attacking for more than 3 seconds. You can even blink from one hero to another and continue Omnislashing them if you time it well.
Shadow Blade
A Shadow Blade is a strong item on Juggernaut because it allows him to dominate the mid game very easily. He can prey upon any lone heroes who are farming by themselves, as they will almost certainly die to a full damage Omnislash. Enemies will need to invest in lots of Sentry Wards, or you will be able to get kills whenever your ultimate is off cooldown. It can also help you to escape bad engagements and healing up through Healing Ward from a safe distance.
Manta Style
Manta Style is a great item on Juggernaut because it provides a large amount of useful stats for him and a powerful active ability. It provides lots of damage, health and movement speed, all of which are very helpful for Juggernaut. The active can be used to help you push towers more quickly, purge yourself of any negative de-buffs and can also be used to dodge certain projectile based spells. It’s also a very natural item to build into from Yasha which means that its components help you throughout the early-to-mid game as well.
Late Game Items
Butterfly
Butterfly provides Juggernaut with a massive increase to his damage output. It also provides a lot of evasion and can be used to briefly grant you a large increase to your movement speed. If you’re having trouble going toe-to-toe against the enemy team’s carry, a Butterfly will definitely help you to bring them down without getting yourself killed as quickly.
Abyssal Blade
Abyssal Blade and Skull Basher are very powerful items on Juggernaut because of Jugg’s naturally high attack speed, which allows him to potentially get lots of bashes off. It provides a bit more health and the bash chance can help you to control the cores on the enemy team. This can be particularly helpful if you’re playing against a carry who can deal a tremendous amount of damage to you.
Eye of Skadi
An Eye of Skadi provides a massive increase to all of your stats, increasing your health and damage as well as applying a powerful slow with every hit. It’s a very strong item if you need to be able to soak up a bit more damage and can also benefit from the control. It’s great against mobile heroes and carries with magic immunity, since it can slow them and keep them controlled in team-fights. The slow will also help you to keep them in range of your attacks and is especially helpful when it comes to Blade Fury. As an attack modifier, it’s applied to every enemy you strike with Omnislash.
Nullifier
A Nullifier is a very strong late game item on Jugg if you’re playing against heroes who benefit from strong defensive items. It can prevent enemies from using items such as Aeon Disk, Black King Bar, Eul’s Scepter of Divinity or Ghost Scepter, for instance. It also provides a large amount of damage which is quite helpful. Overall, it’s a great item to get if you need to be able to control enemies more easily.

Situational Items
Mjollnir
A Mjollnir is a strong late game item on Juggernaut. It greatly increases his damage output through the massive increase to attack speed it grants. The item also allows you to get chain lightning procs off which can help you to clear creeps or illusions and help you to farm faster. It also provides you with a strong defensive active which can be used to deal lots of magical damage to the entire enemy team. It helps Juggernaut because he generally struggles to stand at the front of his team without taking much right-click damage. The active helps you to deflect some of the damage and contribute more to a team-fight.
Linken’s Sphere
A Linken’s Sphere provides Juggernaut with lots of regen and stats which can be very helpful in the mid game and it also provides a powerful defensive passive. The Spell Block is very powerful against heroes who can disable you and prevent you from contributing much from team-fights. For example, it’s very strong against Duel, Doom and Demonic Purge. Many of these kinds of spells penetrate magic immunity, which makes Blade Fury much less helpful. Overall, it’s a very situational item but it can certainly be very powerful on Jugg.
Black King Bar
A Black King Bar is a highly situational item on Juggernaut, but it can be very helpful. Blade Fury provides magic immunity, and in many cases, the magic immunity it provides is enough to get you through a team-fight with the addition of one other defensive item such as Manta Style or Linken’s Sphere. However, if you’re playing against a line-up either with lots of magical damage or many disables, then a BKB will help you to contribute more to a team-fight without having to worry about taking too much damage or being disabled.
Silver Edge
A Silver Edge is a very strong item on Juggernaut because it provides him with a lot of stats and an increase to his damage output. It most importantly applies a break which makes it a great item when it comes to dealing with enemies with strong passives which makes them harder to kill. If you’re playing against heroes who benefit from strong passives, you should definitely consider upgrading a Shadow Blade to a Silver Edge.
Desolator
A Desolator can be a very strong item on Juggernaut. It provides him with lots more physical damage and a powerful minus armor attack modifier. It can be very strong if you need more damage to end the game faster. A Desolator is particularly strong if you have allies who deal lots of physical damage. In most cases however, there are more useful items you can get which provides more utility than just the raw damage of a Desolator.
Monkey King Bar
An MKB may be needed if you’re playing against heroes with evasion. It provides lots of accuracy and a significant increase to his damage output, turning him into one of the hardest Dota 2 heroes to deal with.
Bloodthorn
A Bloodthorn is a more situational item to pick up on Juggernaut, but it can be strong in certain situations. The critical chance is somewhat unnecessary since you have an innate proc, but the active silence and guaranteed damage increase can be very helpful if you’re playing against a line-up many of whom have spells which can make them hard to kill. In many situations, a Skull Basher may be a better alternative since it’s a more natural item to purchase on Jugg. However, if you’re playing against several spell-casters, it can be strong.
Assault Cuirass
An Assault Cuirass can definitely be a strong item on Juggernaut. It provides him with lots of attack speed and a minus armor aura which help to increase the damage output of him and his team. It also provides a large amount of armor and an armor aura to his allies which can be very helpful against a line-up who can deal a lot of physical damage, especially if you’re allies are relatively squishy.
Satanic
Satanic is a very strong item on most carries in the late game, and Jugg is no exception. It’s a bit less common on him, since it doesn’t quite suit his play-style as much as it does for other heroes. Jugg has the Healing Ward spell which he can use to heal himself back up after an engagement. He also has little problem getting in and out of a fight due to Blade Fury and his tendency to buy some defensive items such as Manta Style or Linken’s Sphere. This helps him to move out of danger and heal up with Healing Ward, but if you’re taking too much damage when you’re directly fighting an enemy carry one on one, a Satanic may help you to survive the engagement.
Refresher Orb
A Refresher Orb is a very powerful item on Juggernaut due to the potential to use Omnislash twice. In the late game with the extra slashes from 25, Omnislash is an incredibly potent spell which can be used to quickly burst down an isolated carry. The significance of this can be massive, and the ability to use the spell twice is incredibly powerful. It can help you to use the spell more effectively if you mess up the cast once, and if you manage to burst down an enemy quickly, you can refresh it and use it again on the other heroes of the team, or wait to use it later on a different core hero.

Interesting Juggernaut Match-ups
Creep/illusion heroes
Any hero who summons creeps or illusions can be quite strong against Juggernaut’s Omnislash because it becomes very hard for him to cast it effectively. However, he can often clear creeps very easily with Blade Fury or a Battle Fury and he is usually unlikely to use Omnislash if there are illusions nearby. Phantom Lancer is a particularly strong hero against Jugg because he can use Doppelganger to cancel Omnislash if he is ever caught out. Juggernaut also has a hard time dealing with the amount of illusions he can spawn unless he buys either a Battle Fury or at least a Mjollnir.
Ursa
Ursa is capable of bringing Juggernaut down very quickly, even if he uses Blade Fury. He is likely to get at least one bash proc on Juggernaut when using Fury Swipes. Juggernaut has a hard time fighting Ursa unless he is disabled, since Ursa can dish out a massive amount of damage very quickly. Enrage is also very powerful against Omnislash, since it can be used to negate 80% of incoming damage for 4 seconds. Unless Ursa makes a mistake which Juggernaut can capitalize on, he is a very strong hero against him.
Heroes with high mobility
Heroes such as Storm Spirit or Ember Spirit with spells such as Ball Lightning or Fire Remnant are very strong against Juggernaut. This is because they can use these spells to very quickly dodge the damage from Omnislash. Juggernaut also has practically no way to stop them from using these spell to move away from Blade Fury, unless he has a Skull Basher.
Banish
Heroes such as Shadow Demon, Outworld Devourer or Bane all have spells which make them or their allies invulnerable for a brief period. This is a massive counter to Omnislash, since you may not be able to use the spell reliably or consistently to bring down any isolated hero so long as back up is nearby.
Defensive items
Juggernaut is very countered by a number of items in various ways. Most notable are items such as Ghost Scepter, Eul’s Scepter of Divinity or Lotus Orb. The first two of these items can be used to block a massive amount of the damage from Omnislash, and if you use it on an enemy who has an active Lotus Orb, they will reflect it back onto you. This can be devastating for your allies if they are stood near, so be careful to not do so.
Magical damage
Any hero who deals almost exclusively magical damage such as Zeus, Tinker or Skywrath Mage are very ineffective against Juggernaut since he can use Blade Fury to become magic immune. Unless these heroes manage to get the jump on Jugg and keep him disabled, they will have to wait for Blade Fury to be used.
Phoenix
Juggernaut is a strong hero against Phoenix for two main reasons. Firstly, he is very strong against a Fire Spirits and Supernova combo, since he can use Blade Fury to purge himself of the attack slow and also because he has higher than average attack speed which makes him more likely to kill the Supernova. Secondly, Juggernaut’s Omnislash is not separated by Phoenix’s Icarus Dive, meaning he won’t be able to escape if you get the ult off on him.
Babysitters
Any hero who can provide Jugg with a reliable disable is a strong lane support for him, as it can be used to set-up for Blade Fury to deal a lot of damage. This will pretty much guarantee you a kill on squishier heroes. Crystal Maiden is a particularly strong ally to Juggernaut because she can provide a disable and can also help to maintain his mana through her mana regeneration aura.
