Unikrn opens esports betting on Fortnite

On June 8, the esports gambling platform Unikrn announced a new betting on Fortnite section. The news first surfaced in a Reddit post from the official company account. According to the same post, the company is also branching out to competitive titles like Street Fighter V, PUBG, and King of Glory.

Fortnite is a third-person battle royale shooter by Epic Games. Released on September 26, 2017, for PC and consoles, the title enjoyed wild success thanks to its action-packed gameplay and free-to-play business model. It’s estimated that Fortnite has at least 40 million active monthly players. At the moment, Unikrn is the only esports gambling platform that brought betting on Fortnite to its customers.

The decision comes in view of the upcoming Fortnite Celebrity Pro-Am tournament. The competition will take place at E3 2018 on Tuesday, June 12. It will include popular YouTube personalities, Twitch streamers, professional players, and celebrities. For example, a Fortnite fan-favorite Tyler “Ninja” Blevins will compete together with Marshmello (DJ Christopher Comstock) while Ali “Myth” Kabbani will play alongside NBA’s Paul George.

This is meant to be a charity event, and winners will be able to distribute a $3 million prize pool among the charities of their choice.

Unikrn promises to open a lot of markets for betting on Fortnite. For instance, punters will have the option to place wagers on who’s going to be the first one to die, who’s going to average more than 8.5 kills, and who’s going to eliminate a specific player.

Unikrn customers will also stand to win exclusive merchandise and UnikoinGold (ethereum-based crypto tokens) for accurately predicting the outcome of the tournament.

The Celebrity Pro-Am tournament is the first official Fortnite esports event. Epic Games have already announced their plans to invest $100 million into prize pools, so other competitions are likely to follow. With that, Unikrn’s betting on Fortnite offer is bound to gain traction.
