Who are the Fortnite Players to watch in 2020?

We’ve got a top Fortnite players list to help you figure out who is going to be important in the rest of 2020 and 2021!

Top 10 Fortnite Players

1. Bugha

Bugha came out on top of last year’s Fortnite World Cup, a feat that definitely deserves a spot as one of the best Fortnite players in 2020. If you’re wondering who is the best Fortnite player in the world in 2020, Bugha is a pretty good bet. His performances since haven’t been a disappointment, showing that you can keep up good form even with the spotlight on you. He currently doesn’t seem like he’s going to be repeating those big upset wins, but he is definitely still a contender.

Bugha’s performance at the Fortnite World Cup was something else. He came in first in the very first chance to qualify for the World Cup, which definitely marked him out as one of the top 10 Fortnite players. At the final event, Bugha dominated in the finals and win quite definitively, which is rare in a game as unpredictable as Fortnite.

Despite being the guy that most players try to take down, he’s continued to perform well, coming in second at the recent Ninja Battles Tournament and first in the last Cash Cup he competed in.

2. Diggy and Marz

If you’re looking for who is the best Fortnite player, the FaZe clan typically come in high at events. Their biggest players at the moment include Diggy and Marz. Diggy and his Dous partner performed really well at the recent Winterfest Royale. This was an event where lesser-known players came out on top compared with the old guard. This has definitely shown them to be some of the best Fortnite players in 2020.

Diggy is one of the best controller players out there at the moment. His most recent placement was in a Trios cup where he placed fifth despite only managing 8 matches across the entire session. Out of these eight, he got 4 Victory Royales. While a Daily Cup isn’t as high stakes as big events, these consistent performances make him one of the best Fortnite players in 2020.

3. NRG Benjyfishy

Benjyfishy is a bigger player that most fans will recognize, but he has been improving over time. This player looks set to continue this trend throughout Fortnite Chapter 2. Benjyfishy is definitely one of the top Fortnite players, and you’ll be seeing a lot more of him this year. He’s even recently held his own Benjyfishy Fortnite tournament, held right in the competitive section of the main Fortnite game.

Benjy’s recent performance has been pretty consistent. He’s won the last Solo cash cup he competed in at the time of writing, and has placed in the top 10 in the DrreamHack Open. Benjyfishy is definitely one of the top 10 Fortnite players to watch as his results keep getting better and better.

4. Maken1x

Maken1x, or Maken, has been rising in his placements in the last year’s events. He particularly performed really well in Duos at the Winter Royale. He also came in high at the FNCS finals in Chapter 2. He placed 8th in the Solos of Chapter 2 Season 2’s Champion Series Invitational, and 10th at the recent Dreamhack Open. When this is taken alongside his constant high-performance in Cash Cups, Maken seems to be developing fast. He performs stronger is Solos, which is rare for a high-level layer. Maken is one of the best Fortnite players to watch in 2020.

5. Aqua

Aqua might not have quite the same name recognition as some of the bigger streamers, but his performance in tournaments definitely makes him one of the best Fortnite players in 2020. He has pretty consistently placed in the top of European tournaments. He also came in first at the World Cup Finals Duos event. Between this and his European tournament performance, he might be a contender for the best Fortnite player of 2020.

Fairly often, the EU servers are overlooked when looking at the best Fortnite players. This is even more so for other servers. However, layers like Aqua show why talent should be watched from any location in Fortnite.

6. Clix

If you’re wondering who is the best Fortnite player in the world in 2020, then Clix is one of the most prolific Fortnite players out there.

Just turning up for tournaments doesn’t automatically make him the best Fortnite player of 2020, but he also achieves great results. While he’s yet to pull off a big win that really sends him into the higher tiers of players, he has been putting the work in and increasing his ranking. The 16-year-old player has shown a real determination and commitment to improving at the game when you combine this with his already impressive skills he looks to be one of the top Fortnite players in 2020.

7. Wakie

Wakie is a Swedish Fortnite player who hasn’t been in the public eye all that much. However, his performance over Chapter 2 of the game has been pretty solid. He’s been consistently improving and placing in nearly every event. He qualified for the World Cup last year but didn’t set the world on fire once there. He could be one of the best Fortnite players in 2020 if he continues to improve. He typically pulls in top 10 placements in Cash Cups and performed well at the Dreamhack Open.

8. EpikWhale

EpikWhale is another young player that was catapulted to the top tiers of the game after the Fortnite World Cup. He might not be the household name of other winners is yet, but this player doesn’t show any signs of slowing down this year. At the World Cup, he came in third in the Solos tournament. This is impressive when you consider the competition, but he has been consistently placing in these brackets for some time. This kind of success makes him someone to watch for the best Fortnite players in 2020.

9. Fray

Fray isn’t the most well-known, but he is one of the top Fortnite players around at the moment. He represents the Nakama Esports team and while he hasn’t been placing great in recent open esports tournaments, his playstyle is something that really makes him stand out. The focus on thought out plays is playing well with Fortnite’s current direction. Fortnite news often points towards future developments continuing to reward this style of play. It could make him one of the top Fortnite players in 2020.

10. Mitr0

Mitr0 has something in common with Aqua as one of the best Fortnite players in 2020, he’s not as well known as he should be because of his region. North America tends to dominate conversation over Fortnite, but Mitr0 is another European player who has proven himself capable of going toe to toe with the best. He’s been building on successes since 2018, which in the world of Fortnite Esports makes him a veteran of the scene. He looks likely to continue to improve this year and become of the Fortnite players to watch.

11. Mongraal

Mongraal is another player on this list of the best Fortnite Players of 2020 that has achieved remarkable things at a young age. The player consistently ranks highly and particularly excels in team-based game modes. His performance hasn’t been fantastic for the whole of 2019, but this is largely since he’s gotten some high expectations after great performances. Mongraal is likely to improve even more as the year progresses, and he is one of the top Fortnite players around.

12. Breso

Breso is the best Fortnite player in Australia. He is part of an up and coming group of players who stick with a controller over the mouse and keyboard more traditionally associated with the game. This player came in first at the Fortnite Australia Open in 2020, which definitely puts him as one of the best Fortnite players in the world, and the best in Australia at the moment.

He’s continued to place well in Oceania server Cash Cups and events since then. If you’re betting on streamers or pro players in Australian events, then Breso is one to watch..

13. Poach

This one is kind of cheating, but he is still worth mentioning when running down the best Fortnite players. Poach was on the top of his game a few years ago bringing home a lot of different titles. He was definitely one of the best Fortnite players in the world, then he retired from competitive Fortnite!

He isn’t included in this list of the best Fortnite players in 2020 just because of his legacy though. Poach had some real talent in the game, and that doesn’t go away overnight. Poach might not be showing his skills off anymore, but he can probably still compete at the high tier if he tries to break back into the game. Poach still streams quite a bit but has moved onto other games. He now plays Valorant for Team Liquid.

14. Saf

Saf is a great player who was previously on the Ghost team. While he has parted ways with them, he’s still one of the best players around. He routinely places highly in Epic’s tournaments, like coming in 8th in the Contender Cash Cup. His biggest major win was as a Duo in the FNCS for Chapter 2. Saf could become an even bigger player if he repeats these placements in Fortnite Season 3. Hopefully, he can keep this streak going and stay as one of the top Fortnite players in 2020.

15. Rehx

Rehx is one of the biggest names around in Chapter 2. He’s taken home first place in FNCS along with EpikWhale. While Rehx doesn’t quite have the same high results when playing as a Solo player, he has improved a lot. Rehx has also taken titles for cash cups and other events as a Trio with Cented and Edgey. This shows he has great potential in the future if he can get his solo game up to this same level. Last season’s FNCS weren’t the most exciting events held, but they have shown how players like Rehx are going to be ones to watch in future seasons.

16. JannisZ

JannisZ is far from a household name in Fortnite, with a lot of players being a lot more recognizable. Yet, JannisZ routinely destroys these household names in competitive events.

JannisZ took first place in the Avesta Cup, FNCS Season 2 warm-up, and the European Grand Finals of the FNCS invitational. Over Season 2, this is a pretty impressive domination of Epic’s events. These are recent results, but they definitely points towards a bright future in competitive Fortnite.

17. Megga

At only 15, Megga is one of the younger players competing at the top tier of professional Fortnite. Despite only being eligible for tournaments for two years, Megga has taken home second place in the FNCS Season 2 finals. While he didn’t fare quite so well at the invitational, only coming in 5th, he is still quite young and has a bright future ahead. These types of results show great potential in the player, with an extra push that second place might become first again in future events.

18. Dubs

Dubs is Megga’s Duos partner and has had the same level of success in recent events. As another player on the FaZe team, he’s been competing in pretty much every open event. While his results vary a bit, he’s typically clocking in the top ten of the majority of events he enters. Achieving top ten results even in Solos is pretty impressive.

19. Nayte

Nayte is a European player who has proven to be a resilient addition to competitive Fortnite. He placed very highly in the recent FNCS, but has proved strong outside of that two. In more localized events, Nayte is frequently taking home the top few places. He is one of the best players in 2020 in Europe, and in the wider world. Yet another player who might not be the biggest name in Fortnite, but completely dominates outside of the NA West-East regions.

20. Andilex

Andilex shared first place in the recent FNCS with Nayte. However, he has also placed quite highly when playing as a Solo player. He came in 7th in Solos at the recent FNCS invitational. While it isn’t quite as impressive as his results in the general Season 2 FNCS, it shows great promise for the future.

Honourable Mentions – The Best Fortnite Streamers

A lot of people might scan that list and wonder where their favourite streamer/content creator is. The majority of Fortnite content creators are really high-level players. Most can get results in the game that are far beyond the reach of 99% of the player base. However, they’re not the biggest competitors in the Esports side of Fortnite. To a point, it is a different skill set. The best Fortnite players mentioned here mainly stream purely to watch them develop in the top 0.001% of players. Whereas content creators like Ninja are really high-level players, but they don’t have the same competitive edge. These are some of the top Fortnite players that are also streamers. Those who are definitely high-skill, but more interested in entertaining than taking home trophies at events.

Ninja

Ninja is one of the biggest names in Fortnite and might have one of the largest followings in gaming in general. Ninja did previously compete in a lot more competitive Fortnite events.  He placed well in a number of events in 2018, and even in one event in 2019 in a long hiatus. He simply doesn’t go for competitive events as a contender anymore. He placed well in the Chapter 2 Season 1 FNCS finals but hadn’t bothered to compete in the actual event of the Fortnite World Cup. He instead played in a special celebrity side event. While Ninja might still have the skills to compete, he has pivoted away from being a purely competitive Fortnite player and more towards content creation. Although he is characteristically toxically competitive about that too.

TimTheTatman

TimTheTatman is one of the biggest Fortnite streamers but also a really solid player. He doesn’t focus on the competitive side of the game though. Instead, he actually plays the game for fun on streams. It gives him the freedom to play a lot of different games. His skill level is obviously high from playing Fortnite as a living for such a long time, but he doesn’t really count as one of the best Fortnite players. He has done well in the limited competitive events he enters, but he plays a lot of different games rather than focusing on one.

DrDisrespect

DrDisrespect is a streamer who is pretty much constantly the centre of one controversial or another. His abrasive 80s action guy character makes for compelling viewing. Although he sometimes fails afoul of presenting himself in a decent way, especially with younger viewers who won’t understand the difference between the actions of a comedic character and a real person. Despite all of this, he is a fantastic Fortnite player. His entire in-character performance is hardly helpful for playing at the very top of the skill level in the game though. Maybe if he took off the sunglasses and moustache we’d see him in the top 10 of events, or maybe that’s the get-up is the secret of his success.

Lazarbeam

Lazarbeam might qualify for the list of the best Fortnite players, by being the world’s worst Fortnite player who can beat pros. Lazarbeam makes fun content, that revolves around trying to get wins despite him admittedly being bad at the game. He still manages to rack up high kill counts and win games despite performing stupid feats like swimming around the entire map. He’s even beaten Ninja. Lazarbeam is a terrible Fortnite player, but that he still gets so many wins and kills shows that the best Fortnite players need to know the game’s inner-workings inside and out.

Dakotaz

Like the others here Dakotaz is a great player. Compared to the majority of people, he is one of the best Fortnite players. He could likely drop into a game with the majority of the player base and perform miraculous feats. However, he doesn’t put himself up against the very highest tier of the game, so we can’t really say he’s the best player out there. In the past, he played for TSM but has since left.

dakotaz-streamer-fortnite

Those are some of the best Fortnite streamers that might be able to make the list for best Fortnite players. These players all have a lot of skill, but without competing on that Esports level with some of the other players we can’t really say for certain where they stand.

Best Fortnite Players FAQ

How many professional Fortnite players are there?

There are a lot of Fortnite players, but defining which are ‘professional’ is difficult. There are hundreds of thousands of people who try to make money as a professional Fortnite player. However, the numbers are a little lower if we limit to just those who are successful as professional Fortnite players, and therefore a professional. This number is lower, around 1000. These are about the number of players who compete on the top level at tournaments, across every region. Having so many regions helps to thicken this number out a bit for Fortnite.

Who is the best Fortnite player in the USA?

The best Fortnite player in the USA is probably Bugha, Cloak, or Tfue! However, like with the best Fortnite player overall, this depends on preference. Players play better or worse in each tournament. Since Bugha won the last major one, he tends to come out on top. However, that’s no guarantee he’ll win the next major tournament.

Who has the most kills in Solo Fortnite?

At the moment, Elemental Ray has the record for the most solo kills in a game. This is 48 kills that he managed to rack up by massacring players peacefully watching an event. As you can probably gather, this doesn’t exactly mean he’s the best Fortnite player, just someone who seized an opportunity to ruin an event for a lot of people!

Who is the Fortnite player with the most earnings?

The Fortnite player with the most earnings is probably Ninja. However, it can be difficult to measure this. If you’re just counting winnings form official tournaments, Bugha is the answer. His prize money from the World Cup is much higher than everything Epic’s offered otherwise.

However, there is more money to be made in Fortnite content and streaming than from competing in Esports events. That is why Ninja likes comes out ahead. He is the biggest streamer, big enough for Microsoft to blow a lot of money getting him on the ill-fated Mixer platform.
