Overwatch 2 Damage Heroes: What are they and which are our favorites?

Overwatch 2 damage heroes are entirely focused around eliminating the other team, with very little ability to help their own team. Some are given a lot of raw damage, while others have highly mobile abilities to flank and secure kills. With the most heroes available out of any role, there are a lot of niche picks for certain situations, and there are also ones that are almost always good.

Aspects that define a good damage hero pick are total DPS, mobility, and utility. DPS being the role’s primary objective; after all they would not be a damage hero if they didn’t deal damage. Mobility helps with getting into favorable positions and disengaging when threatened. Utility, like a slow, helps set up further damage.

Which are our favorite damage heroes in Overwatch 2?

Sojourn has everything she needs to thrive in every situation, she is lethal at all ranges while having the means to protect herself and disengage with ease. Sombra can safely move anywhere on the map and her ultimate is one of the best for setting up a team kill . Genji can finish off low health enemies and win fights for his team with Dragonblade. Reaper with a speed boost can run over almost anything, and he can shred squishy targets up close with no skill requirement by using his ult.

1. Sojourn

Some would argue Overwatch is really just about who has the better Sojourn, one of the new characters in Overwatch 2, as she is so powerful you are basically throwing the game away if you don’t have one on your team. Sojourn’s overloaded kit allows for consistent damage, one shots, high mobility, and she has a slow in case that wasn’t enough for an Overwatch 2 damage character.

  • Sojourn’s primary fire on her railgun is somewhat lackluster, dealing 126 DPS, but its unique mechanic to charge her secondary fire makes for a deadly combo. In a straight 1v1, Sojourn has a finisher packed into her kit. Against a pocketed squishy, Sojourn can build her railgun to full charge and one shot them through the healing.
  • Power Slide lets Sojourn quickly reposition or disengage, making her incredibly difficult to lock down or dive. Just be extra careful not to slide to your death, especially near the unfamiliar edges of the new and best Overwatch 2 maps.
  • Disruptor Shot slows enemies, allowing for much easier kills. It also deals a decent amount of damage.
  • Overclock makes Sojourn’s secondary fire charge automatically, and allows it to pierce through enemies. With 8 seconds on the ult, Sojourn has at least seven shots dealing 130 damage.

While Overwatch 2’s Sojourn is incredibly strong, she does require good aim. A good Sojourn will completely take over the game, but a bad one will just annoy the enemy.

2. Sombra

In a constant state of being too overpowered or worthless with no inbetween, Sombra’s rework has done little to remove the annoyances of her kit, and actually might have made her even more annoying and powerful.

  • Sombra’s Hack can now be performed during Stealth, which still lasts forever. Sombra also deals an additional 25% damage to all hacked targets.
  • Stealth makes it easy to get behind the enemy, and the new ping system makes it much easier to communicate enemy positions to your teammates.
  • You can still use Translocate to leave a fight quickly, and with less stuns in the game you are less likely to be locked down before you can escape.
  • The new EMP wins teamfights with ease, as it instantly chunks all enemies by 40% of their current HP and provides a short hack to finish off the kills.

For a similar pick focused more around duels rather than teamfighting, Tracer in Overwatch 2 still provides plenty of mobility and is better at getting early picks than Sombra.

3. Genji

The chaotic nature of Overwatch 2 provides the perfect habitat for the Genji main. With one less tank, the supporters can finally answer Genji’s cry for healing.

  • Dragonblade synergizes well with many other popular meta picks. This ultimate can easily win a fight if set up correctly. Even without assistance, Dragonblade can still get multiple key picks as long as the enemies utility is played around correctly.
  • Genji’s mobility is one of the best in the game, and he can use it to easily engage or run away from the enemy. Flanking angles are easy to find, and easily abused.
  • Deflect can easily turn most duels in your favor, but heroes with beam weapons, such as Zarya, ignore it.
  • Swift Strike resets make it easy to clean up fights, and makes for some very flashy plays. “Ghost Dashing” is very inefficient and dangerous, but it looks cool in the POTG.

With a projectile primary, multiple dash resets, and a timing based ability, Overwatch 2’s Genji is actually very mechanically intense, and his initial difficulty might make the character unapproachable.

4. Reaper

The Beyblade has returned. With the introduction of Kiriko’s ultimate we can finally spin to win once more. Reaper also synergized well with Zarya and Lucio as a “deathball.”

  • High burst damage but only up close means Reaper must work with his team in order to be effective. His abilities and footsteps are so loud it is nearly impossible to simply sneak up on the enemy.
  • Reaper’s ultimate can quickly wipe out the entire enemy team. Reaper moves very slowly when using his ultimate, making him an easy target, so look to surprise enemies from high ground after they use all their abilities that can cancel your ult.

Overwatch 2 Damage Hero: Honorable Mention

Torbjorn

Don’t get it twisted, Torbjorn is not an S tier pick by any means, but he is very easy.

  • Torb’s Overload instantly gives him 100 armor and a movement speed buff, making him very difficult to dive and get picked early.
  • You can’t deal damage if you’re dead, but Torbjorn suffers no such weakness. Your turret and ultimate will continue the fight even after you get yourself killed.
  • The hammer calls. You must get the funny hammer kill.
