LoL Patch 14.16 – Major death time changes

Patch 14.15 was officially released on July 31 and we have started seeing major shakeups in the meta. Despite ADC still being relevant in the mid lane, we are slowly seeing assassins and mages rising up in solo queue.

While Swarm and the summer event are underway, Riot has begun working on the next patch as we’re slowly approaching the last part of the ranked season. The upcoming patches are going to be crucial since they will directly impact the meta for Worlds 2024, which is set to take place in Europe from the end of September.

Despite not many changes being announced, Riot’s game designer Spideraxe has revealed a few important changes to the early-game death timers. The amount of time with a grey screen will be increased until level 10, as players will be punished more heavily early on, with a 4-second increase in the first 4 levels. This should make early-game champions more relevant as they will have more time to take advantage of the windows created by kills. Below you can check out all the numbers planned for the patch.

Additionally, after nearly 9 months of waiting, the new T1 Worlds skins are also here. They are already available in the PBE and will be released in the upcoming patch.

Patch 14.15 Release Date

According to the official patch schedule, Patch 14.16 will be released on Wednesday, August 14. This will be the 16th patch out of the 24 updates planned for the year.

How will the upcoming patch impact the meta?

Now that we have got a full patch preview, we can start to analyze some of the main changes. First up is Senna, who is getting heavily changed with a nerf to her lethality build. To compensate she gets extra AP ratios and a buff to the interaction with the Black Cleaver. I’m not fully sure it will make her better or worse so we will have to test her out.

I’m a little intrigued by Qiyana’s changes. I think it overall makes her damage less reliable based on auto attacks but I also feel like she loses a lot of damage when played to utmost perfection. For most players, it’s overall a positive change. For the high elo players, probably not as good.

A similar thing can be said about Katarina. Her trading towards the mid game will get much better given the Q damage increase but she loses out on the Shunpo damage which is her bread and butter.

Happy about some of the pro-focused changes: Corki getting nerfed and Sylas getting buffed is nice to see. The three staple picks of the mid lane (Azir, Orianna, and Syndra) are also getting buffed but I’m not sure whether those changes will push them magically into top tier contention: we will have to see.
