With Patch 14.16 officially on the live servers, let’s find out the changes for the upcoming LoL Patch 14.17.

LoL Patch 14.17 – Major death time changes

Patch 14.16 was officially released on August 14 and it came with one major system change. The game devs increased the death game timers in the early game, proving their stance on trying to buff up early game champions and make early game leads more punishing for the losing team.

Aside from that, there have been several champion changes as a major shake up is needed given the exaggerated presence of ranged marksmen across different roles. Additionally, quite a few mid lane champions have been buffed or nerfed so this might be the most affected role in the patch.

Going into the next patch, Riot game designer Phroxzon shed some light on the reasoning behind the upcoming changes. Starting off with the ADC, they are looking to nerf some of the strongest champions and nerf marksmen’ presence in the mid lane by adjusting some of the runes such as Absorb Life, Cut Down, and Fleet Footwork.

Following the micropatch nerfs, Riot has been satisfied with where Aurora has landed but they will look to nerf her a bit more and make some follow up visual updates to make her less frustrating to play against.

Lastly, Riot is tweaking some of the strongest supports dominating the current patch, with Senna, Seraphine, and Pyke at the top of the list: the goal is to make both melee and ranged supports viable. As usual, we’ll have to wait for game designer Spideraxe to show us the number changes.

Patch 14.16 Release Date

According to the official patch schedule, Patch 14.17 will be released on Wednesday, August 28. This will be the 17th patch out of the 24 updates planned for the year.

How will the upcoming patch impact the meta?

There are quite a few good changes in the patch, especially since it nerfs down some of the most powerful picks in the meta. Champions like Rumble, Senna, Seraphine, Katarina and Ezreal are all getting tuned down a bit. I’m a bit surprised not seeing Jhin on this list but we will likely have to wait a bit more. Aside from that, the Absorb Life and Fleet Footwork nerfs might push marksmen away from solo lanes once and for all (mostly a high elo change).

Among the buffs, I’m mainly looking at Ryze and Graves. The former might become a viable option for some while the AD jungler might become more relevant if more AP junglers were to be nerfed (which is the main reason why he has been struggling in the first place).
