Axie Infinity Meta Breakdown – February 24, 2022

For today, we are back at it again to discuss what are the top meta teams this season 20 of Axie Infinity. And based on our last week’s analysis, some things had a handful of changes on our list but the majority of the strong teams we mentioned still work as the most consistent setups in the game right now.

Here is our meta breakdown of the best Axie setups this week (highest MMR).

Axie God Reptile

God Reptile still at the top

*(Reptile-Aqua-Plant/Dusk, Reptile-Mech-Plant/Dusk, Reptile-Bug-Plant/Dusk)

And still, the main meta of the game today are the setups catered to utilize the God Reptile. The Melee and Ranged reflect cards Bulkwark and Tiny Catapult work at their best on almost any damage-dealing card in the game, making it a double-edged sword for opponents to actually initiate an offensive strike against this Axie. But also, the option to skip to dodge these reflect cards can create an opening to activate Tiny Swing’s superb damage prowess and Kotaro Bite’s energy gain against faster enemies.

The best Midliner for the God Reptile as of now is the Aqua with Tail Slap, Scarab Curse/Bug Splat, Crimson Water/Risky Fish, and Acrobatic due to its speed-up capability, anti-heal mechanic, and energy gain. It is also stronger against Mech/Beast/Bug Axies.

Another option for the Midline is a full-burst Mech with damage cards (best with Acrobatic for possible speed-up), or the new rising Bug Axie with Mite Bite, Grub Surprise, Scarab Curse/Bug Noise, and Anesthetic Bait. Then mix it up with the meta Plant or Dusk with Cattail, Bug Splat/Scarab, Grub Surprise/Wooden Stab, and Piercing Sound as the front. Again, the God Reptile setup proves to be a god Axie this season 20.

Double Plant-Bird is formidable

Double Plant and Bird setups emerged as one of the strongest setups in Axie Infinity during the offseason after season 18. But with the birth of Bug and Mech setups in season 19, as well as the nerf for cards such as Drain Bite and Cleanse Scent, Double Plant-based setups did not become meta last season. Though now, newer card combinations for this team are working, making it one of the meta setups today.

Aside from the already-proven Double Plant Numbing Lecretion setup that we mentioned last week, a rising star based on this team is the Leek Leak variant. This card is the complete opposite of Numbing – it disables the target’s Ranged cards. But its higher shield and damage utility makes it an offensive and defensive card compared to Numbing Lecretion wherein its only strength is the effect itself.

Most players use Leek Leak with cards such as Cleanse Scent, Prickly Trap, and Blood Taste in the Midline. This goes with either a Bird with Hare Dagger/Risky Feather, Balloon Pop/Triple Threat, Eggbomb, and Peace Treaty, as well as the usual meta Plant or Dusk with Cattail, Bug Splat/Scarab, Grub Surprise/Wooden Stab, and Piercing Sound.

Hybrid/Triple Aqua

*(AQUA-AQUA-PLANT/DUSK/AQUA)

And to cap off this week’s list of best teams in Axie Infinity is still the ever-so-flexible Aqua setups. The Aqua body alone is fast and has a higher HP for its speed, so mixing it up with cards that are stronger than the Axies with the highest HPs such as the Reptiles and Plants really do wonders.

The backline Aqua has different variations. It just depends on your preference. You can use this with the usual Cuckoo engine (Cuckoo, Crimson Water/Risky Fish/Angry Lam, Scale Dart/Risky Arrow, and Upstream Swim), the Spiky Wing combo (Spiky Wing, Crimson Water/Risky Fish/Angry Lam, Hero’s Bane, and Upstream Swim), or the Balloon Pop variant for more outplay potential (Balloon Pop, Hero’s Bane, Crimson Water/Risky Fish/Angry Lam, and Upstream Swim).

Partner any of those with the meta Midline Aqua with Tail Slap, Scarab Curse/Bug Splat, Crimson Water/Risky Fish, and Acrobatic, and the Front Plant/Dusk with Cattail, Bug Splat/Scarab, Grub Surprise/Wooden Stab, and Piercing Sound – consistency at its finest.

Lineups to watch out for

Other competitive setups you can consider this season 20 are the Double Bug (Anesthetic Bait, Bug Splat/Scarab, Third Glance, Sunder Claw) and Sugar Rush Aqua, umping Poison (Gas Unleash Plant, Venom Spray/Ivory Chop, Smart Shot, Chomp Dusk, God Backdoor Mech), a Triple Bug Signal/Terror Chomp team (Dusk/Plant-Dusk-Aqua), and a Mech-Aqua-Plant/Dusk team.
