World of Warcraft Castle Nathria Mythic Race to World First is now live!
Castle Nathria’s Mythic-level raid is opening this week, and fans are chomping at the bit in order to get there first, and to kill Sire Denathrius. The raiding creme della creme is looking to start Shadowlands on a high note, as competition is as intense as ever. Even streamers and casual players are eager for the change to test their mettle.
Several guilds have signed up to stream the entire process, as is tradition. Previous Race to World First events have been pretty big productions – this time, it’ll all be stream-at-home type of stuff, but still, there will be plenty of eager WoW players participating!
Shadowlands Race to World First
Guilds like Limit, Pieces and Blank will each be hosting their own events, complete with streams around the world. Over in Europe, we might get a first glance of the new Method, as well as old Method raiders clearing under the name of Echo.
Although more guilds than ever are having their players participate in the Nathria event, the winner from the race in Ny’alotha, Complexity-Limit, is expected to once again take the win here. They have announced that they’ll be streaming between 16 and 18 hours of footage of the Race to World First on their official Twitch channel – and their members may also have their own individual streams. Worth noting is that the official guild stream will feature closed captioning for the hard of hearing!
The entire Shadowlands expansion is likely going to see plenty of RTWF events going on. Method popularized the format and the interest of spectators is growing on each new raid release.
Race to First – a spectator esport
The race to defeat the last boss at the highest difficulty of a dungeon isn’t new – players have been engaging in it for over a decade. It was only in 2018 though, that this turned into a spectator sport, and participants started properly streaming their adventures as they raced to claim the crown.
Unlike most esports events, the publisher, Activision-Blizzard, has no affiliation with the race – it’s entirely organized and supported by fans, players and streamers that take part in the

In addition to Sire Denathrius, raiders will have to fight their way past bosses like Shriekwing, Huntsman Altimor, Hungering Destroyer, Lady Inerva Darkvein, Artificer Xy’Mox, Sun King’s Salvation, the Council of Blood, Sludgefist and the Stone Legion Generals.
Already, we’ve seen lower-difficulty versions of Castle Nathria make the casuals screech. It’s a foregone conclusion that Denathrius is going to go down – it’s only a question of when, and who will manage to deal the fatal blow!
