Astralis & Vitality cruise through DH Masters Malmö bracket – Liquid & EG face elimination
The DreamHack Masters Malmö 2019 is in full swing as Day 2 begins at the MalmöMässan Arena. Fourteen teams still remain in the battle for $100,000 in Prize Money and a slot at IEM Katowice next year.
The opening day saw Team Envy and Tyloo eliminated at the hands of FURIA and Fnatic. Two additional teams will join the first round eliminations by the end of the day. It has been an underwhelming start for two of the top four global seeds as #1 Liquid and #3 EG are in trouble while #2 Astralis and #5 Vitality are cruising through with ease.

Astralis & Vitality book Playoffs early
After last weeks defeat at ESL One New York 2019, Astralis is looking to prove they deserve that #1 global seed they lost back in June. They dealt with the opposition in day one with relative ease as they sent both Tyloo and G2 to the losers bracket without dropping a single map. While the first match against Tyloo was a complete stomp, G2 did give some resistance on Nuke, as they brought the map to overtime. After crumbling to the overtime pressure G2 completely fell apart on Dust2 as Peter ‘dupreeh’ Rasmussen ran a highlight reel against them. With the win over G2, Astralis booked their spot in Playoffs.
Opposing Astralis for the semifinal spot is Team Vitality who booked their spot to the bracket final on the back of Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut. It was ZywOo who ultimately carried the team to a victory over ENCE and Tyloo. Match one for Vitality went down in similar fashion as the one Astralis had versus Envy. The trouble arrived in the bo3 versus ENCE where the series was touch and go for a while and could go either way. Ultimately a victory was secured and the upper bracket of Group A was settled.
Vitality and Astralis are set to meet in the Playoffs decider on October 3, 2019 at 13:40 CEST.

Liquid and EG facing elimination
For all the praise EG received after besting Astralis in New York, they are facing a backlash after a bad start in Sweden. They were upset by Grayhound on Nuke in the opener and are now forced to battle for survival against mousesports in the opening match on Day 2. Team Liquid faces an identical situation as they dropped Overpass against OpTic Gaming and are now also in the losers bracket of Group B.
The real kicker is that both Liquid and EG will probably plow through their bo3 matches in the lower part of the bracket and are likely to meet in a decider for the last playoffs spot from that group. We did get a chance to view these two teams clash in New York and the last time this two squads met was back at Blast Pro Series Los Angeles which went down to EG (then NRG). Their head-2-head record is 22-18 with four ties between them making this potential Loser Bracket final in Group B a must watch matchup.
But before all of this happens we have to witness what will go down on the winning side of Group B and who will the opponents of EG/Liquid be before they eventually meet up.

The rest of the pack
We kinda glaced over the other ten remaining contenders for the throne at DreamHack Masters Malmö 2019. With both Liquid and EG going to the losers bracket in Group B, it is now up to Optic, NaVi, NiP and Grayound to pick up the slack and battle for their Playoffs spots.
Even with the recent reinforcement by Ladislav “GuardiaN” Kovács to the squad, Natus Vincere cannot be too comfortable coming into today’s match versus OpTic Gaming after witnessing Liquid get dismantled yesterday. It has been only praise for the NaVi old/new lineup leading up to the event, but the real test will be held today around 16:00 CEST. If they best OpTic they are likely to advance all the way to Semifinals.
NiP and Grayhound both had amazing openers yesterday and are now battling for entry into playoffs. Another tough match-up to scope as these two teams haven’t met in a competitive setting in a very very long time. Based on recent performance everything that isn’t Nuke or Overpass should go the way of Grayhound.
Finally the biggest match of the day is the European powerhouse matchup between Fnatic and G2. This match is not a battle of strength as much as it might turn into a battle of memes. Both organizations are riding the meme train hard in every esports competitive game they face each other and CS:GO will be no different and by the end of the day one of the two is likely to explode on Instagram and Twitter.
