CS2 Round Time Commands: Practice Like the Pros with Infinite Time

Infinite time is essential while practicing in Counter-Strike if you’re committed to improving your skill on the server. It can be frustrating to spend time lining up the perfect utility throws, only to have the round end before you’re able to see how well it actually works. Or perhaps you’re practicing crosshair placement, and the round ends before you can even get to where you need to be on the map.

Not any more.

We’re going to show the best CS2 practice commands you can use to help you in getting good, making sure you never accidentally run out of time again. These are the techniques used by Counter-Strike esports players, allowing you to match the very best and give yourself the best chance of reaching the promised land of Global Elite.

CS2 Infinite Time Commands

First thing first, if you’re wanting infinite time CS2 must have the command console enabled. Players can do this by entering the in-game Settings Menu, under the Game category. Here, players should make sure that the ‘Enable Developer Console’ option is selected ‘Yes’. This is essential, and the following CS2 unlimited time commands won’t work otherwise.

  • Open the in-game console by pressing the (~) key.
  • Enter the command ‘mp_roundtime_defuse 60‘. This command is a staple in CS2 pro settings, as it increases the round time of the most played mode, Bomb Defusal, to 60 minutes. This is likely the mode you’ll practice most, meaning you’ll barely ever run out of time when doing so.
  • Optional: enter the commands ‘mp_roundtime 60‘ and ‘mp_roundtime_hostage 60‘. This will increase the round time for Wingman and Hostage Rescue modes to 60 minutes. While these modes are less popular, if you did want to practice them in CS2 infinite time is still an option open to you.
  • Enter the commands ‘mp_buytime 60000‘ and ‘mp_buy_anywhere 1‘. While this is technically optional, these steps allow players to buy weapons and utility anywhere and anytime on the map. You might find it extremely restrictive for practice if you’re unable to buy anything past the first 20 seconds of a 60-minute round.
  • Ensure that you restart the game for changes to take effect.

If you’ve followed these steps correctly, you’re now ready to practice like the pros in CS2. While 60 minutes between rounds isn’t infinite, it’s more than most would ever need for a single round in practice.

There are other ways that players can improve their CS2 experience, such as optimizing their CS2 rate settings. But for practice, setting infinite time in CS2 is one of the best ways that players can improve fast.

Infinite Time Commands in CS2

The short version is that (good news) yes, there should be no issue with CS2 infinite time command codes working! Setting any codes needing the developer console requires you to enable the console in the first place. With that in mind, here’s a quick rundown on how to get it working in CS2. Go to the game settings, open the Game tab and do the following:

  1. Select “Yes” for the “Enable Developers Console (~)” option.
  2. Save the changes in the game settings menu.
  3. Press the tilde (~) or backtick (`) key (to the left of the number 1 on the number row on most keyboards) to open the console.

Now that you’ve got the console enabled you’ll need to take the codes we mentioned earlier and type them into the console. You can enter them all in a string to apply the changes easier, so we’ve provided a one line message to enter into your console that should make it easier for you:

mp_roundtime_defuse 60; mp_roundtime_hostage 60; mp_roundtime 60; mp_restartgame 1

This command will set the time on Defuse and Hostage modes as well as the current map you’re playing on all to the maximum 60 minute time limit. It will then restart the game you’re playing on your local server to apply the changes.

FAQs

How can I get the most benefit from CS2 infinite time commands?

The most benefit you’ll get from CS2 infinite time commands is likely to be by practicing your utility. With CS2’s two-minute restriction on rounds, it’s almost impossible to learn a decent amount of lineups in the given time. These commands change that entirely. If you mess up a smoke – no bother. You’ve got as much time as you need to buy a new one, and throw it to where it needs to be until you get it right. There are also some maps that help with utility lineups, but if you don’t want to download them, this is your next best option.

What other commands can I use alongside the CS2 infinite time commands?

If you’re using it to help with your utility practice, we’d recommend you also use the infinite money commands. It’s great having infinite time to practice. But it ultimately doesn’t matter if you run out of money five minutes into a round anyway.

Can I use CS2 infinite time commands online?

No. Infinite time commands can only be used in private matches. Any console command that fundamentally alters the way the game is played is disabled in online public matches, and for good reason. It would almost certainly be abused by some players in the game, which wouldn’t be fun for anybody. The only console commands that can be used in competitive matches are purely visual, such as viewmodel commands. These don’t provide an unfair advantage to anyone, and therefore are okay to use.

Do CS2 infinite time commands stay enabled?

Unfortunately not. CS2 infinite time commands work on a game-by-game basis. It’s important to have everything that you need copied somewhere for quick pasting in-game. This means that if you enter a match and use the command, it won’t be active the next time you go into a match. The only console commands that stay every time you relaunch the game are CS2 launch commands. However, the infinite time commands just don’t work when they’re inputted as a launch command.
