How to Change Appearance in Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 was released to critical acclaim at the start of August 2023, some twenty years after its predecessor. It became an overnight sensation and stayed at those lofty heights for quite some time, with the developer, Larian Studios, pumping the game full of updates and amendments over time, post-launch. Even this far after launch, players are still pondering one aspect of the game: how to change the appearance in Baldur’s Gate 3.

For those playing Baldur’s Gate 3, how to change appearance became a sticky topic, as it isn’t immediately made obvious how to do so. In almost every RPG game in the history of the business, there is some way to change identity or appearance written into the very foundation of the title. From magic enhancements to ‘skin doctors’, almost every game of this type has a feature that’ll allow the player to change their appearance, and Baldur’s Gate 3 is no different.

If you’re now wondering how to change appearance in Baldur’s Gate 3, we have some solid news for you – it’s effortless. Following an update made to Baldur’s Gate 3 on October 6th, 2023, players now have the ability to change how their ‘Hirelings’ look, among other things, but the ability to amend their own appearance was added into the game at the end of September, in the game’s third patch.

Basically, it all revolves around the Magic Mirror that sits somewhere in your camp. As the game progresses through various acts, you’ll notice that the Magic Mirror moves around – it’s a magical item, after all. When you’re able to track it down, you’ll notice that interacting with it takes you into a character customisation area, and it’s here where you change your appearance. It’ll be a few presses of a button or two, and that’s it – you’ve learned how to change appearance in Baldur’s Gate 3.

There’s quite a lot you can change, from your voice and face to any makeup, hairstyles, tattoos or body art. It’s worth noting that you can’t change your race or body type, though. And as mentioned, you can now change the appearance of your Hirelings, too.

And as of October 6th, you can use the Magic Mirror to change your name, so that’s an added bonus.
