Top 4 teams to keep an eye on at The International 2018

The International 2018 is quickly approaching and at this point we know who the main contenders are for this year’s Aegis of Champions. These are most likely the top 4 Dota 2 teams in the world right now:

Team Liquid crowned champions – The International 2017

With 12372 points earned during the inaugural season of the Dota Pro Circuit, ended in 1st place and is arguably the side with the highest chance of winning The International. VP won no less than 4 Majors this season and since its latest roster change (Lil got replaced by RodjER), it has been at the top of its game, looking unstoppable against the majority of tier 1 teams.

Going into The International 2018, expect VP to get at least a top 4 finish and completely dominate its group.

PSG.LGD finished the regular season in 3rd place with 7332 points, but most analysts will tell you that the Chinese squad is at least the 2nd best team at the moment and possibly even the best.

PSG.LGD won 2 Majors (EPICENTER XL and MDL Changsha Major) and placed 2nd in 3 other Dota Pro Circut events: PGL Open Bucharest, StarLadder i-League Invitational Season 4 and Dota 2 Asia Championships 2018.

Like, PSG.LGD is expected to perform very well during the Group Stage and then make a deep run into the tournament.

Team Liquid

The TI 7 champions have been training hard for the past 6 weeks and at one point the individual stars from the team were occupying the first positions in the MMR leaderboards.

In the 2017-2018 season, Team Liquid performed well, winning 3 Minors and the circuit’s only Supermajor. The team placed 2nd in 2 other Majors and a Minor. In particular, Liquid’s 1st place finish at China Dota2 Supermajor, the last and most important event of the regular season, was clear evidence that KuroKy and and his teammates are ready to defend their Aegis of Champions from 2017. The 3 – 2 victory over none other than was an impressive display of team play and individual skill.

Evil Geniuses

If you’re not up to date with recent events and the latest roster changes, you may be wondering why did I include Evil Geniuses on this list. After all, the team had a disastruous season and ultimately had to go through open and regional qualifiers to participate at this year’s TI.

But, in spite of these struggles, EG is now a top contender for the Aegis of Champions. The replacement of MISERY and Fear with Fly and s4 has turned EG into a 2016-2017 OG on steroids. Three of the members that were part of those 2 separate OG rosters are now playing for Evil Geniuses. And the two other players that complete the roster are arguably among the top 5 in the world at their roles: Arteezy as carry and Suma1L as mid.

At DOTA Summit 9, a tournament that took place just 2 weeks ago and brought together important teams like Fnatic, VGJ.Storm, OpTic Gaming and paiN Gaming, Evil Geniuses smashed the opposition and claimed the title, defeating Fnatic in the Grand Final (score 3 – 0).
