DWG KIA and DRX favored in openers – LCK Spring 2022 Playoffs
The LCK is moving to Spring Split Playoffs of the this week. The first round will see two quarterfinals, and the winners advance to face T1 and Gen.G respectively.
Here is a look at those matches along with how the second round could look.
DWG Kia vs Fredit Brion
The first quarterfinal will be between Worlds runner-up DWG Kia and Fredit Brion. It would come as no surprise that DWG Kia are regarded as heavy favorites. On Betway, a DWG Kia win will fetch you odds of x1.25.
DWG Kia failed to live up to their lofty expectations this season despite finishing third with a solid 11-7 season record. The roster underwent several changes during the offseason, which meant that their new personnel took quite a bit of time to get accustomed to each other’s styles. Bot laner Deokdam was their most proficient player, producing results of 4.21 kills, 1.52 deaths and 4.07 assists at a KDA of 5.44 along with a creep score of 332.36. These were impressive returns considering he is relatively new to the DWG Kia style of play.
Over in the middle lane, ShowMaker has stayed steady but not to his usual level. He has produced returns of 2.71 kills, 1.67 deaths and 5.02 assists at a KDA of 4.64 and a creep score of 305.55. While he is the reason for DWG Kia’s incredible success over the last few years, this year has been slightly different. His kill rate has reduced, which has also impacted his kill participation rate.
Finally, team will be pleased with their jungler Canyon’s overall production. Canyon has managed 2.52 kills, 2.05 deaths and 6.33 assists at a KDA of 4.33. In the jungle, to get such a high kill participation rate and a low death rate is quite atypical.
Overall, we are looking at a clean DWG Kia sweep this series. I call for a 3-0, and Betway will cough up x2.40 for it.
DRX vs Kwangdong Freecs
The second quarterfinal is a much closer contest between DRX and Kwangdong Freecs. DRX finished fourth in the regular season with a 11-7 record, same as DWG Kia, but with a lower map win percentage of 54. Kwangdong Freecs started the season slowly but finished with aplomb, including two straight wins to leap past Fredit Brion and into fifth on the regular season standings. This is quite a tight contest as evidenced from the odds on Betway. DRX are slight favorites with odds of x1.60 while Kwangdong Freecs have been assigned odds of x2.20.
It is hard to see past DRX in this contest. They are a much-improved team from the splits that have passed in 2021. Zeka and Deft have led their resurgence with KDAs in excess of 4. Deft has been particularly prolific with returns of 3.95 kills, 1.98 deaths and 4.13 assists per map at a KDA of 4.09 and a creep score of 334.33.
While Zeka does not have as high a kill rate, he has maintained a lower death rate and dominated his defensive game. He has generated numbers of 2.55 kills, 1.68 deaths and 4.43 assists per map at a KDA of 4.16. These are representative of the fact that DRX now have reliable players in two key positions in Summoner’s Rift. And as a result, I’d be looking at DRX to win, potentially even in five maps against a solid team in Kwangdong Freecs.
My call is a 3-1 victory for DRX.
Two of the best teams in the world in Gen.G and T1 await the winners of these contests. DWG Kia facing the unbeaten T1 at some point during these playoffs could be a delectable clash. And that is not unlikely at this stage of the postseason.
