New MultiVersus Game Modes Coming
MultiVersus is nearly back, once it returns though, what is there to do? The MultiVersus game modes will be expanded a bit from the last time the game was available. Alongside the core modes, MultiVersus is getting a new PVE experience.
What are each of the modes and what can you do in them? MultiVersus has always had a few quirks to its mode, like co-op but a weird difficulty with co-op on the same system. However, across each of the modes, there should be something for anyone to do. Especially now the game has had improvements since it was announced to be returning. These are all of the MultiVersus game modes we’re expecting when the game returns from its break soon.

Rifts – New MultiVersus Game Modes
In the build-up to MultiVersus returning, one new mode has been splashed all over. One of the headline new features is a fresh addition to the MultiVersus game modes, Rifts.
This will be a more cooperative take on the platform fighter. It’s a player-versus-enemy mode, great for polishing up mechanics or having fun outside of the competitive side of the game. It’s a simple set-up for endless fights.
Players select their characters and begin to encounter enemies or challenges through rifts. Each rift brings in foes for you to fight or a different challenge. It seems to have some creative tasks to beat, including more mini-game-like challenges.
The fights will become harder over time. The game will apply mutations and mechanics to characters and challenges to make them tougher to beat. While it’s a PVE game mode, players are encouraged to grind to be the best. They can try to get the furthest into the rift encounters to clock up more points on a global leaderboard. Those with the highest score will be able to show off their skill in-game.

Online MultiVersus Game Modes
Probably the most popular of the MultiVersus game modes, the standard online matches. These are pretty familiar for anyone who plays a lot of fighting games. It’s a mode where you can queue up, either alone or in Duos, and then fight another player or pair of players.
This is pretty much the way the standard way to play. You can do Ranked or Normal matches, but the experience is similar. You’re against a random opponent, seeing who is better at fighting games. There are a few different formats for online right now. These are all of the online MultiVersus Game modes:
- Teams – 2v2 online play
- Co-Op – Co-op against AI opponents
- 1v1s – A solo fight
- Silly Queue – Rotating different modes, with modifiers and changes to characters or rules
- FFA – A bigger Battle with everyone on their own, stands for free for all.
Practice
The next of the MultiVersus game modes is more of a tool, but it’s still somewhere players might spend a serious amount time. Practise is where you can go to train. It’s where you can really try to learn everything about the MultiVersus fighters you use.
The practice mode is often key for learning how to do combos, pull off certain attacks, and get to know a character. Not the flashiest, but labbing in practice mode is always a useful way to spend time.
Custom
Just like in other fighting games, you can also set up your own specifically designed game modes. This is all in Custom Play. You can set the rules and play with friends in private matches. If you want to grind with a friend but don’t fancy the tension of MultiVersus Ranked or even random opponents, this is where you’ll go.
Those are all of the MultiVersus game modes. The title is getting much more to do when it returns, and we might be able to expect some more modes coming in future updates too.
