Everything Added in the Helldivers 2 Omens of Tyranny Update

At the Game Awards, where Helldivers 2 might’ve been snubbed of a nomination for Game of the Year but secured other awards, the Omens of Tyranny Update was revealed.

It’s been a while since the game, which dominated the multiplayer space for months in 2024, had a substantial update.

The update went live the same day as the announcement, and here’s everything it added to the game.

Helldivers 2: What’s in the Omens of Tyranny Update?

The Illuminate is officially back in Helldivers 2.

  • Long rumored to be returning, the developers officially brought the faction back in the update.
  • They were driven into space in Helldivers 1, but are officially back as a third faction.
  • The addition of these long-forgotten enemies has given the Helldivers 2 player count a recent surge, too.

The Omens of Tyranny update introduced urban spaces in maps. For the most part, Helldivers players had just open space to fight in.

That made things simpler, but the challenge of fighting in tighter spaces was something a lot of the community wanted. Enter the latest Helldivers update, which remedies that with cities, mid-rise buildings, and more.

Real, useful vehicles have also landed in Helldivers 2. Exosuit Mechs were the closest thing to a vehicle to transport you and your squad to a new place, but that’s changed now:

  • You can now drive an FRV (Fast Recon Vehicle) in the game.
  • There’s one spot for a driver, one for a gunner.
  • Everyone else can lean out the window and fire their own weapon.

Melee weapons are finally available as well.

  • The update added them as part of the Urban Legends Warbond.
  • This now means you can fight for democracy on a much more personal level.

Finally, there’s also a fun, new emote that actually serves a purpose in-game.

  • Where other games have emotes purely for fun, this one actually kills an enemy.
  • It’s modeled after the Spartan kick from the movie 300, and you can use it to kill an enemy in your way.
