XDefiant Season One Roadmap Begins On July 2
Ubisoft has just unveiled season one of XDefiant, the electrifying and free-to-play first-person shooter that was released on May 21. In a short trailer showcasing what’s coming from July 2, we got an exclusive look at three new maps and weapons, an all-new faction, a fresh and highly anticipated game mode, and some of the bundles and packs surfacing in the first season. For the last couple of weeks, players have been enjoying XDefiant’s ‘pre-season’ phase, but the action is well and truly about to kick off.

Enter GSK
It was confirmed that this opening season of XDefiant is themed around GSK, a faction pulled straight from Rainbow Six Siege. This highly-trained, surgical special forces unit utilises shields and other gadgets to oppress the opposing team and seize control of the battlefield. In the season one trailer, this new faction was unveiled with a few combat-focused clips. Here’s the trailer for reference:
Alongside the new faction comes three all-new maps: Daytona, Clubhouse, and Rockefeller. It was confirmed that there will be one map per month, which suggests that season one will last around 90 days. Clubhouse looks like a rough-and-ready motorcycle garage, Daytona appears to be a racing circuit, and Rockefeller is based on the Rockefeller Center in New York City.
Three new weapons are making their way onto the battlefield in season one of XDefiant. We’ll see a sawn-off double-barrelled shotgun, a bolt-action sniper rifle, and a riot shield surface in the coming weeks, with the latter weapon coming hand-in-hand with the new GSK faction.
Also coming in the XDefiant season one update is Capture the Flag, one of the most traditional and high-octane game modes in the history of multiplayer-based shooters. In addition, players enjoying the game’s ranked offering will be able to unlock fresh rewards as they progress through the ranks. Finally, there’s an array of bundles and in-store purchases to be bought, offering players the option to equip their weapons and operators with exclusive cosmetics.
Remember, as Ubisoft stressed before, none of these microtransactions are necessary to ‘win’ at the game. If you’re hungry to improve, check out our guide to the best M4A1 build in XDefiant and get the upper hand over your opponents.
