VALORANT  is on the rise with a growing fanbase and community. This ignites interest in console players who want to be part of this community. Other popular shooters like Overwatch and Apex Legends have made the expansion to consoles. This has led some to wonder, can you play VALORANT on Xbox? Is VALORANT on Xbox, and will it be coming in the future?

Let’s take a look at the timeline of when is VALORANT is coming out on the Xbox and other consoles.

Valorant Xbox Release

Riot Games Current Console Expansion

When it comes to Riot Games you can always expect constant growth and game development.  With an active community, it always ensures players enjoy the games to the fullest. This is evident through its recent expansion into mobile gaming and frequent patch updates across all their games. Games like League of Legends, Legends of Runeterra and even Teamfight Tactics have all received mobile expansions.

VALORANT Console Expansion Possibilities

There are various sites providing a platform for streaming competitive VALORANT and VALORANT betting, and the game is sure to expand and create more potential. Things are looking positive, as Riot devs have stated multiple times during Q&A sessions that console releases are going to be developed. The growth of VALORANT in 2021 is definitely going to boost this focus even further.

Although Riot Games has focused on balancing the game since its release, they have welcomed the possibility of console expansion. But players are wondering if and when VALORANT will come to consoles.

Trevor Romleski, VALORANT’s lead designer, confirmed that Riot is “open to exploring new opportunities for other platforms.” – This was during the PC’s closed beta.

“Getting VALORANT running at 120Hz on next-gen consoles is an achievable goal.” – Riot principal engineer Felipe Romero told Eurogamer in June of last year. Hearing this confirms there is a chance of VALORANT expanding to consoles. Sadly, there is no definite time given for the release of VALORANT on Xbox.

One thing to keep in mind is that Riot Games is experimenting with consoles. Ruined King: A League of Legends Story is being developed with console expansions in mind. League of Legends: Wild Rift is also rumored to be coming to consoles in the future.

Will VALORANT come to Xbox in 2022?

Unlikely.

Currently, there is not enough information to say if and when VALORANT is coming to Xbox. An interview held between Gamespot and Executive Producer Anna Donlon on the 4th of June 2021, Donlon stated they are currently “prototyping a VALORANT console port”, but did not go into further details.

“There’s a way to play this game and there’s a way to experience this game that we’re not entirely sure translates completely to console.” – Donlon concluded.

Although players are hopeful, there is no official plan for VALORANT releasing on Xbox at this time. The earliest possible release based on rumors was Q3 2022, if everything went according to plan.

UPDATE: Riot Games opens job listing for Valorant

When Valorant was released in 2020, there were hints about the game being playable on more than just PC. While the recent job listing for the role of a Senior Game Designer might not be related to Valorant coming to XBOX and Playstation, it is something that sparks hope in all of us.

Considering how popular the game is, it would be no surprise if it becomes available on multiple platforms. Still, if the official announcement ever comes to light, the odds are pretty high that it still will not happen in 2022, even if Riot Games is exceptionally good with coming with big announcements out of nowhere.

UPDATE #2: Recent job postings confirm Console development pipeline. Two recent job postings on Hitmaker, confirm the developer’s dedication to bringing Valorant to consoles. Judging by the positions just opening up now (November 2022), we are likely looking at a long while before the game actually arrives.
