LEC Spring 2020: Can we begin the season with a 100% prediction rate

The hype season is upon us, and that can mean only thing. The LEC (previously known as EU League of Legends Championship Series) is back ladies and gentleman, better and bolder then ever before. As we are approaching the beginning of the Spring Split, LEC’s content team has been releasing hype videos after hype videos to announce the beginning of the 2020 season.

As is tradition, we at Esports.net have already spent a fair amount of time analyzing and theorycrafting how the teams scale up to one another. We also dedicated a fair bit of time analyzing what has been going on behind closed doors and in scrims.

Before the 1st Week of the LEC Spring 2020 kicks off this weekend, let us share how far we got in our analysis and give you our predictions for all matches in the first week of play.

Day 1 Match Predictions

We open the 2020 season with G2 and Mad Lions clashing for the 1st W. It would be unfair to prop MAD up in this matchup, especially since they are meeting the most dominant roster EU has ever had. The only avenue for Mad Lions would be G2 making their ADC/MID role-swap go horribly wrong, and even then things are not going their way.

In the 2nd match of the LEC Spring 2020, Vitality meets SK for their season opener. Both teams ended last season on a 7W11L score line and divided up their mutual matches. Both teams went on to do replace key players in the offseason and the new rosters are not “oozing” with awesomeness. This is one of the matches that can easily go either way, but our money is on Vitality.

Rogue meets Misfits in the match that follows. This two teams had different experiences the entire 2019 season as MSF imploded while RGE grew exponentially. Kicking off 2020, Misfits rebuilt their roster once again while Rogue did only minor tweaks (Hans Sama joined RGE from MSF). Will the brand new 3rd roster of MSF in 15 months do any better this time around or will Hans Sama stomp his former team? Our money is on the latter.

The fourth match between Excel and Schalke04 is probably the hardest one to call. Schalke rebuilt their roster in the offseason while ExceL just signed the entire world onto their team plus YoungBuck. We don’t know how well Forgiven will be in the ADC role especially if he plays against Patrik. This match could go either way and just because we have to do it. We chose ExceL.

The final match is also our Match of the Day as Fnatic meets Origen to once again reignite the long-lasting rivalry. Although I am going to forever be an Origen fanboy, FNC looks way stronger this year than last. They replaced Broxah with Selfmade and they also have OG’s former support Mithy as their head coach. Origen had to deal with losing Kold, Patrik and Mithy and their replacement will take time to blend with the organization. In Week 1 our money is on Fnatic.
