Below you can read our predictions for four not-to-be-missed matches of the first day of Week 1.
G2 Esports vs. SK Telecom T1
This is likely the most looked forward match in the whole tournament, the first battle between the two major regions, Korea and EU. EU made a major stand last year in the 2018 League of Legends World Championships, with two teams in the semi-finals, while Korea failed to get a single team through. That said in 2019, Korea as a whole look extremely promising, adding now that SKT is back on track, they are favoured over G2.
Prediction: G2 Esports 40% l SK Telecom T1 60%
Flash Wolves vs. Team Liquid
Both Flash Wolves and Team Liquid finished between 9th-12th place in last year’s World Championships. However, Team Liquid dominance in the NA scene has shown their vast improvement compared to 2018, this year likely being their strongest yet. Flash Wolves, while similarly going strong this year, look slightly weaker compared to TL.
Prediction: Flash Wolves 42% l Team Liquid 58%
Phoung Vu Buffalo vs. Invictus Gaming
This should be a clear win for Invictus gaming, the 2018 League of Legends World Champions. Not only are Invictus looking very good this year, winning the LPL Spring Playoff event, Phoung Vu Buffalo come from a significantly weaker region. Previously, Phoung Vu fell 3-0 against Team Liquid, given Invictus are comparable to TL, this match should be no different.
Preddiction: Phoung Vu Buffalo 10% l Invictus Gmaing 90%
SK Telecom T1 vs. Flash Wolves
SK Telecom T1 and Flash Wolves are longtime rivals in the international scene. While SKT have had its weaker years, especially in 2018, this is their time to come back. History has shown, when SK Telecom T1 gets quite one year, they dominate the next. That said, Flash Wolves have a decent chance given their consistently strong play.
Prediction: SK Telecom T1 65% l Flash Wolves 35%
