New skins coming to Overwatch with Winter Wonderland event

Blizzard have decided to put a freeze on their Overwatch player base with a flurry of new skins and holiday themes in this year’s Winter Wonderland event. The event will start on the Overwatch client beginning December 11 and continuing through January 2. This Winter Wonderland event will feature a total of nine new skins to be added to the vault over the course of the month.

With this update, Patch Notes have been revealed making a few changes to heroes with slight buffs coming to McCree, Torbjorn and Bastion. Doomfist’s ultimate is facing a slight nerf and Blizzard developers are once again hammering Brigitte’s physical kit with subsequent nerfs the last two patches.

Skins for the Holidays

A new holiday season in the Overwatch universe usually means a new set of skins to accompany them, and Blizzard have done that once again for this 2018 Winter Wonderland event. The event takes place for the remainder of December and will extend until January 2, making this the premier event for Season 12 of competitive Overwatch action. Season 13 of competitive play is set to start shortly after.

There are six legendary skins and three epic skins for players to unlock with the update. The new legendary skins are 3,000 credits apiece. Previous Winter Wonderland cosmetics are all available at discounted prices. The legendary skins available are Sugar Plum Fairy Mercy, Krampus Junkrat, Biathlon Widowmaker, Snow Fox Lucio, Snowboarder Zarya and Figure Skater Symmetra.

There are also three new epic skins: Gift Wrap Bastion, Winter Ashe and Festive Reinhardt. This year’s event will not feature a new game mode catered to the Winter Wonderland theme as Overwatch developers made it clear they are spending less time making the seasonal events of Overwatch more accessible and instead focusing their resources on gameplay enrichment throughout next year.

Patch Notes

McCree – Alternate fire damage per bullet increased from 45 to 55.

Bastion – Recon mode ammo increased from 25 to 35. While firing, gun spread decreases by up to 33%.

Torbjorn – Puddle damage per second increased from 130 to 160.

Brigitte – Shield bash damage reduced from 50 to 5, no longer bypasses enemy barriers. Buffs to inspire (Q) cooldown reduced from 1.5 to 1.0, duration increased from 5 seconds to 6 seconds, total healing increased from 80 to 100.

Doomfist – Loss of air control duration (for enemies) reduced from 3 seconds to 0.6 seconds. Max range reduced from 20 to 15 metres. Inner ring radius for ultimate reduced from 2.0 metres to 1.5. Max damage outside of outer ring reduced to 200 from 300.
