Current raid schedule in Pokémon GO and how to dominate each one

On July 1, the Pokémon that would show up in Pokémon GO raid battles changed. That means that Mewtwo, Snorlax and others aren’t showing up anymore, which means the opportunity for a shiny Mewtwo has temporarily gone away.

With a new month, there are all new Pokémon for trainers to gather their friends and fight. The stronger the Pokémon, the more challengers it will require to take down. The one-star raids can be done individually, though. This month, that includes:

  • Charmander
  • Meowth
  • Onix
  • Staryu
  • Wobbuffet

Three-star raids probably need a friend or two. This month, these three-star Pokémon can be defeated:

  • Granbull
  • Nidoking
  • Nidoqueen
  • Wigglytuff

The five-star raids change much more frequently in a month. Right now, Articuno is appearing, but in a few days that will change. Moltres, Zapdos and Dialga are all going to be featured after Articuno.

Mega Raids will also be occurring, with Mega Charizard X up first.

How to dominate each Pokémon currently in raids

The one-star raids don’t require a whole lot of effort to defeat, but in order to save revives and potions, super effective counters are helpful:

  • For Charmander, a Water-type like Blastoise or a Rock-type like Lycanroc will work well.
  • For Meowth, a Fighting-type like Lucario is an excellent choice. Fighting types are super effective against Normal type Pokémon, so the party should be full of them.
  • Onix is a Rock-type, which makes it weak to Grass, Water, Steel, Ice and more. Venusaur, Bisharp, Glaceon and Klingklang are all good choices.
  • Staryu is a Water-type, which makes it weak against Electric and Grass types. Sceptile, Vileplume, Jolteon and Electivire will make short work of the starfish-like Pokémon.
  • Wobbuffet, a Psychic-type, is weak to Dark, Bug and Ghost. This makes Haunter, Umbreon and Spiritomb all good choices to take it down.

Three-star raids are not as challenging

For three-star raids, it’s even more important to have good counters. Both Nidoking and Nidoqueen are Ground, Poison dual type Pokémon, which means they’re both weak to Ice, Ground, Psychic and Water. Vaporeon, Dugtrio, Alakazam and Vanilluxe will give trainers an easier battle.

Granbull is a Fairy-type, which means it’s only weak to Steel and Poison-type attacks. Steelix, Haunter, Ariados, Muk and Skarmory are strong counters.

Wigglytuff is a Normal/Fairy dual type Pokémon. Normally, Fighting would be a good choice but Fighting is weak against Fairy, so the only options are Poison and Steel, in which case the same Pokémon used against Granbull will do nicely.

Five-star and Mega Raids – Call your friends

Articuno, one third of the Legendary Birds, is the five-star raid until July 7. It is an Ice/Flying dual type. To effectively counter it, try Moltres, Melmetal, Aggron, Incineroar, Bastiodon, Electrode, Ampharos, Blaziken, Charizard and Golem.

Mega Charizard X is a Fire/Dragon type Pokémon. To effectively take it down, try using Steelix, Salamence, Haxorus, Golduck, Golem, Rhyperior, Swampert and Flygon.

It’s important to have the right number of players in a raid to be able to take it down. Three-star raids probably need two trainers. Five-stars need a minimum of five, but the more the merrier. Mega Raids are easier to defeat with more than five, too.
