Sega announced their first blockchain game
SEGA, the infamous 90s gaming powerhouse, have just announced their first blockchain game instalment.
Reports have shown that this new game will be featured in the Sangokushi Taisen series. For those who are not familiar with this game series, it is an action packed strategy trading card game, most popular in its native Japan.
Sangokushi Taisen is primarily played in Japanese arcades, something the western societies have not latched onto since the early 2000s.
The mainstream adoption of this game will open up new fanbases for this title. With how popular trading card style games like Gods Unchained have become via the blockchain, this new release has the potential to tick all the boxes for new users!
These cards in the previous games are actually physical, resembling the recent NFT craze that saw investors and gamers have full ownership over their digital assets and in-game collectibles.

Who have SEGA teamed up with?
SEGA have teamed up with Double Jump Tokyo a high class producer of blockchain gaming experiences for already established gaming companies such as SEGA.
Double Jump is by no means a new kid on the block in terms of crypto gaming.
Their roster boasts some of the most popular NFT/crypto based games you may have actually missed out on!
Previous titles of Double Jump include:
- My Crypto Heroes
- My Crypto Saga
They also offer a wide array of web3 services including:
- N-Suite
- NFT Plus +
Double Jump Tokyo seems to have a lot going for them, and this hasn’t been left unnoticed as the likes of Polygon and BandaiNamco have invested into their vision.
Check out their website to find out more about Double Jump.
Nothing much has been released in terms of a release date, however we can imagine more info from both parties will come in the near future.
The NFT portion of the game, whilst still remaining somewhat of a mystery at the time of writing, has been given to Oasys! They have just recently announced their recent collaboration with Square Enix, another Japanese gaming household name.
History in the making…
For many it has felt like a lifetime waiting for this recent announcement.
At the start of 2022 SEGA were reported to have trademarked the term “SEGA NFT”, a clear indication that they have had intentions with the virtual blockchain worlds and its technology for nearly a year now.
SEGA’s producer Masayoshi Kikuchi stated the following:
“Gaming has a history of expansion through the connection of various cultures and technologies.
For example, social networking and game video viewing are recent examples.
It is a natural extension for the future of gaming that it will expand to involve new areas such as cloud gaming and NFT.”
It really is a sight as we are seeing more and more blue chip gaming brands making the important transition to the web3 side of gaming.
Be sure to keep Sangokushi Taisen on your radar as this game could really make movements with its release. Be sure to give SEGA a try, who knows they could be back on top of the gaming world if these releases are able to live up to their hype and are adopted by western fans!
