Anubis CS2 Creator Offers Potential Changes to Solve High T-Side Win Rate
Anubis’s original designer, Roald, has given his take on potential changes that could be made to the map in order to reduce the current lopsided T-side win rate in competitive play. Since the arrival of Anubis in the competitive CS2 map pool, very few changes have been made to the popular map, which has led to it becoming extremely T-sided in both the pro scene and among casual players.
Anubis creator proposes removal of rugs
Anubis is probably due for a shakeup, especially with teams still struggling to make it work on the CT-side. Original map creator Roald has weighed in with a few potential solutions in a post on X. The first change to Anubis would potentially be the most drastic, with Roald suggesting that Valve could remove the upper A area (usually called rugs) entirely.
This solution would remove the issue of Ts beating CTs on timing to this area, essentially making it impossible for CTs to push out aggressively with any consistent success. It would make this area more hotly contested in every round because of the amount of map control it would reward. Right now, the existence of rugs makes it too much of a risk for CTs in the early round, so this change to the Anubis CS2 layout would be fascinating to see.
Roald does acknowledge that this might be too drastic a change, especially with Anubis remaining one of the most popular maps in the pool despite its T-sided nature. He does propose a less radical solution, too, suggesting that Valve could instead move the path to T stairs a little further away to make the timing worse on the T-side.
Ultimately, I don’t think Valve are looking to make any changes to Anubis any time soon, but it would be a bold move for the studio to get ahead of the curve and choose to keep things fresh before the map becomes stale. I don’t know if Roald’s proposed changes are the perfect solution, but I certainly don’t hate them in principle.
