Pro Gamers’ Journey into Web3 – Are Pro Players Interested in Crypto Gaming?

The crypto gaming sentiment hasn’t died as we see key esports and gaming figures turn to blockchain gaming.

Not many people have been convinced by crypto gaming. Apple, Rockstar, and Nintendo have alluded to the fact that they are not entirely sold on play-to-earn (P2E) gaming, stripping web3 fundamentals from their games and platforms.

The crypto industry is surrounded by much controversy, ultimately turning people away from crypto gaming before they have given it a go!

It cannot be forgotten, though, that millions of people have already tried crypto gaming. Fans remaining loyal to games despite the crypto market’s current shaky climate due to SEC legislation is a good indicator of how grounded crypto gaming has become.

What would you say if your favorite esports star or gamer showed an interest in crypto gaming?

You may be surprised to find that gamers from web2 are slowly making their way over to web3 gaming. At a time when esports has a lot of uncertainty around it, gamers may begin to make the shift…

Gaming legends migrate to the blockchain

One of the most notable examples so far of a pro gamer turning to blockchain gaming is Dr. DisRespect. He is a famous Call of Duty streamer over on Twitch, renowned for his humorous streams and dashing mustache.

Not only is he for web3 gaming, Dr. DisRespect is also actively pushing the crypto space through his own ventures.

‘Midnight Society’ is the studio led by DisRespect, who are set to release their own game, ‘Deadrop’.

This is a futuristic first person shooter that is currently in development. With Dr DisRespect’s notoriety amongst the online gaming community, we can imagine his fanbase will migrate over to the blockchain to try out his game.

The competitive crypto gaming scene has really latched onto first-person shooters, thanks to their dynamic gameplay and action-packed storylines.

Esports stars show further interest in web3

Online personalities aren’t the only ones who are optimistic about blockchain gaming. Esports stars who play some of the top competitive games in the world are interested in the new possibilities presented by web3.

If you are an avid fan of competitive Rocket League, then you will be familiar with Max Ng or his alias, ‘Maxeew’.

He has yet to try out blockchain gaming but has remained keen from the sidelines, applauding the overall fundamentals of these new types of games. That being said, Play-to-Earn games (P2E) and the concept of being rewarded for playing games with incentives redeemable in the real world, such as Non-Fungible-Tokens (NFTs).

Word has also been received from Joseph Turner, co-founder of Gaimin Gladiators, a professional esports organization that has a hand in League of Legends, Dota 2, and Rocket League, to name a few titles.

He has understood that traditional gaming companies such as Rockstar and Valve are not on board with web3 incentives, stripping the features from titles as mentioned.

While some of the biggest names in gaming have not been pleased with crypto and gaming, others have been more welcoming, including Epic Games, the creators of Fortnite. Their game marketplace features two up-and-coming blockchain games, Star Atlas and Blankos Block Party.

Could pro gamers be the blockchain’s answer?

With more and more news coming from the gaming industry regarding crypto gaming and the wonders it presents, it will only be a matter of time until we see mass onboarding of traditional gamers.

When considering how popular streamers and professional gamers are on social media and their influence in the industry, they may be able to create buzz and interest in crypto games.

We have already seen Cloud9 collaborate with Axie Infinity, including competitive game modes in their esports events held online.

Who knows? More crypto games could be added to Cloud9’s roster.

Plus, rewards for pro gamers can help keep game ecosystems alive through the distribution of prize crypto tokens and NFT collectibles unique to that event.
