Assassin’s Creed joins the NFT ecosystem

Now this is one name in gaming we never thought we would see enter the world of NFTs… but here we are!

Assassin’s Creed have just unearthed their new project in conjunction with Integral Reality Labs, a company looking to “ reimagine Gaming and NFTs with the first Integral Co-Reality Platform.” It is called Pieces of Eden, with this collection being limited to 1500 NFTs.

What is the name of the new Assassin’s Creed NFTs? They are called ‘Assassin’s Creed Smart Collectibles’ and are collectible characters that holders can customize to fit their wants and needs via the blockchain. The Layer 2 blockchain, Polygon is being utilized by Ubisoft and Reality to bring another cutting edge experience through Ethereum, a long-time go-to for many NFT and crypto game developers.

What are the Assassin’s Creed NFTs used for?

In Web3 investors look for many things in their investments, whether it is a new crypto token or an NFT you want to have a criteria that can be met to make it a worthwhile investment. After all, some of these investments are not cheap, and are incredibly volatile!

Assassin’s Creed NFTs as mentioned are customisable. You acquire different characters in cubes, and these are available in different rarities. The branding of all the NFTs is ‘Smart Collectibles’.

What happens next? Well this is where things get quite interesting. These new NFTs are then logged by Ubisoft, and from there you are actually sent a physical version of the NFT, similar to that of top NFT collections on Binance like Nike x RTFKT, Pharrell and Doodles etc.

Furthermore, the built-in NFC chip integrates these NFTs onto the designated phone app giving users a further immersive experience in the Assassin’s Creed NFT experience.

You want utility and real world inherent value as this falls nicely inline with the whole ethos of Web3 and Web3 gaming!

What does this mean for Web2 brands & Web3 gaming?

Well, this means a whole bunch of things. NFTs have been frowned upon from the get go by gamers and game developers. The likes of Mojang and Rockstar Games are not interested in NFTs and have made this known to their fans through press releases.

We have seen some Web2 names jump into the blockchain, Microsoft, Konami, Atari and SEGA to name a few.

Not much regulation is around NFTs and with how much exploitation is undergone, companies are trying to keep their fans and gamers in safe hands.

There is no denying though that as time has progressed, the status quo is changing on NFTs and Web3 as a whole. Government policies are being made and implemented to help protect users and also develop both gaming and the wider entertainment industries.

What does this mean for Ubisoft? Well we can imagine this will further show their commitment to the blockchain, as they have already released NFT collections with Rabbids on The Sandbox NFT Metaverse experience.

What does this mean for Web2 gaming? NFTs are a ticking time bomb, one they need to explore. As time goes on many more companies MAY integrate Web3 and NFTs. The game of catch up will be initiated and a rat race will ensue!

What’s your take on this? Are you excited or optimistic?
