Everything you need to know about the DreamHack Masters Malmö 2017

Details surrounding the DreamHack Masters Malmö 2017, part of the DreamHack series and one of the most popular tournament series on the esports calendar have just this week been released.

Due to commence on 30th of August, The Malmö 2017 is set to be one of DreamHack’s premier events, attracting some of the most prominent names in CS:GO. Find out everything you need to know about this exciting tournament below.

Where can you catch it?

The event will span across 5 days, from the 30th of August to the 3rd of September. Held in the Malmo Arena, the event is expected to attract thousands of fans worldwide. As always, the event will be officially streamed on the various DreamHack partner websites – alongside HLTV.

Prize pool

We see no change this year, with the usual prize pool of $250,000 USD on offer, in accordance with the pre-existing Dream Hack Masters series. While the exact prize pool distribution break down has yet to be released, it ls likely the winners will receive 40% of the total prize pool ($100,000), as has happened in previous events.

Teams break down

There will be a total of 16 teams competing in the Masters event for a share in the $250,000 prize pool. 12 of the 16 teams were directly invited to the event by organizers, where the remaining four were from other regional qualifiers. As the event is held in Sweden two of the qualifiers took place in Europe, while there was a single qualifier allocation for the Asia & Oceanic and North American regions.

Participating teams

Twelve teams were directly invited, including mainstays SK Gaming, Virtus.Pro and Astralis.
Alongside this, the following were directly entered into the tournament:

G2 Esports
Natus Vincere
Ninjas in Pyjamas
OpTic Gaming

As always, there were four teams that entered through qualifiers:

B.O.O.T dream[S]cape – Asia / Oceania qualifier

Finishing first in their region’s qualifiers, they took down Recca Gaming in the finals. These qualifiers sifted BOOT from a total 128 teams in the region across 3 days – where BOOT were deemed champions in early August.

EnVyUs – European qualifier

EnVyUs qualified for the major event through the EU qualifiers, where they placed second in the event. They were beaten only once by Mousesports, who have shown fairly strong performances this year.

Mousesports – European qualifier

Mouseports have been going well in the past year, managing to place top four in the ELEAGUE Season 1 and ESL Pro League Season 4 – Finals. In addition, they managed to take out the EU Dream Hack Malmo qualifiers, where they finished first out of 16 places.

Renegades – North American Qualifiers

Renegades will be the only team advancing from the NA region through qualifiers this major. They finished top in the North American qualifiers even beating the much hyped Team Liquid, one of the region’s top teams. Renegades too had a strong turn out this year, while unable to take out any titles, they managed to finish runners up in DreamHack Winter 2016 – along with a few other events.
