Early Hero Trends to Watch in Dota 2 Patch 7.39
It’s only been a few days since Valve dropped the 7.39 Dota 2 patch alongside the Spring Forward update, and already some crucial hero trends are starting to appear. Like us, you’ve probably have been playing a lot and also following what’s going on at DreamLeague Season 26, but just incase you haven’t, we wanted to share the first trends in the new meta.
There will most likely be changes in the next couple of weeks/months, but until then, let’s go over some of the key things you should keep in mind. Here’s some of the earliest trends in Patch 7.39 after one weekend.
Dota 2 Patch 7.39 Early Hero Picks and Trends
Lina is back in the meta
Dozens of heroes received buffs or nerfs in the 7.39 patch, and Lina was no exception. A quick look at the official changelog reveals that Lina’s Combustion and Laguna Blade both received buffs. Combustion now provides more Overheat damage, and Laguna Blade does more damage on levels 2 and 3.
Although these two buffs may not seem that significant, the truth is that they make her one of the best heroes in 7.39. We had the chance to test Lina in several positions, and it’s safe to say the hero feels much stronger. That’s why it’s unsurprising that her win rate on platforms like DotaBuff has increased by 2.75%.
Aside from being a pub stomper, Lina also found her way in the professional meta. If you’ve followed the action at DreamLeague Season 26, you’ve probably noticed that some teams, such as Gaimin Gladiators, have been picking her a lot. She can be a solid option for support and mid, depending on the situation.

Dark Willow is among the hottest supports right now
Dark Willow is one hero that we definitely did not expect to see back in the meta. It’s been a while since the annoying support was a hot pick, but the new Dota 2 patch 7.39 changed that.
If we analyze the stats so far, we can see that Dark Willow has more than a 1.30% increase in her win rate and a 0.30% increase in her pick rate since the new patch arrived. These numbers may not seem like much, but we meet her more often than before. She is in a strong position 4 or 5 that can easily punish enemies thanks to her insane damage output.
An interesting fact about Dark Willow is that she is also a hot pick among professionals. Teams like Aurora Gaming used Willow in their last couple of games at DLS26, and the hero definitely contributed to their success.
The reason why Dark Willow became a hot option is because of the most recent buffs. Her Pixie Dust’s HP and mana regen were buffed from 100% to 150%, and Shadow Realm’s cooldown is down to 15s on level 4. It definitely seems like she is among the best heroes in patch 7.39 so far.
Clockwerk’s Chainmeal makes him a lucrative option
Although we haven’t seen much of Clockwerk in professional games, the hero’s been terrorizing pubs in the last couple of days. His new Facet called Chainmeal suddenly made Clock one of the most annoying heroes in the game and the best offlaners in 7.39.
The new ability allows him to self-cast Chainmail and consume it, giving him +4 permanent armor. What’s shocking is that he can use this ability as much as he wants, which means that he can become almost impossible to kill.
While it’s true that he needs time to unleash his full potential, Clockwerk can be very hard to deal with once that happens. He was already a pain to play against before the buff, but he suddenly became even stronger.
Despite the buffs, for some reason, Clock’s overall effectiveness is lower than before. The stats reveal that the hero’s win rate dropped by almost 4% since the 7.39 Dota 2 patch. On the other hand, his win rate is up by more than 3.28%, so he became more popular but less successful. We’ll keep an eye on him to see what will happen in the next couple of years.
Invoker may become the king of the mid-lane once again
Invoker is one of the heroes that is almost always present in the meta, one way or another. Despite that, the last couple of patches were not good for the magician (at least as a core), so we usually saw him as a position 4. The good news for Invoker fans is that this is about to change because 7.39 seems to put him back in the mid-lane.
Invoker received more starting damage, buffs to his orbs, Cold Snap, and several other changes. With that said, the hero also received some nerfs, such as the one to Aghanim’s Scepter and the lower INT growth.
After testing him in several games, however, he is in a better position than before. The hero is a hot pick in pub games, and his win rate is close to 50% (at the time of writing). We’ll keep an eye on him to see if he will slowly become the new kind of mid-lane. For now, OD and Storm remain the more common picks, especially in pro games..
