ESL One Winter 2021 – NA DPC Week 1 Analysis & Match Predictions
North America competitive scene. Certainly not the most thrilling region to watch, especially in the Dota 2 Esports side of entertainment. But with a fair variety of notable teams, the ESL One Winter 2021 might just be a treat this Thanksgiving.
It’s back to the gruesome weeks of Dota Pro Circuit 2021-22 (DPC 2021-22) matches for eager teams looking to play in the first Major. NA, despite their terrible downfall at the International 10 (TI10), just got even more exciting.
Evil Geniuses vs Arkosh Gaming
An undisputed powerhouse versus a squad managed by Jake “SirActionSlacks” Kanner, all evenly matched amirite? It’s certainly the content sought after by fans, who are just in it for the comedic value. The odds at GG.BET are heavily stacked on Arkosh Gaming at x12.04 versus EG at only x1.01 returns.
Roasts aside, Arkosh Gaming is by no means a pushover, as they reached the Division 1 league after placing top seeds in the amateur Division 2 league. They do still have lots to learn before they could ever have a proper match that doesn’t feel like they need a handicap. Statistically, Arkosh Gaming’s potential is often held back by their poor drafts. While they were able to play decently with meta hero picks, anything out of the box or ‘experimental picks’ will certainly result in a loss. Hence, having such poor versatility will certainly cripple the team’s ability to outplay their opponents.
EG is a team that needed no introduction even before they recruited Jesse “JerAx” Vainikka, whose skills are the stuff of TI champions legends. We expect a classic beatdown in favor of EG, which isn’t very interesting. However, it will be JerAx’s first pro match since he retired two years ago, so perhaps it is worthwhile to watch the match.
Quincy Crew vs 4 Zoomers
On a more even playing field, Quincy Crew and 4 Zoomers are staples in the NA DPC scene since their debut. It will be a classic brawl between the two seasoned squads, but this time with several new faces on both sides.
Quincy Crew’s latest addition, Maurice “KheZu” Gutmann and Milan “MiLAN” Kozomara offer a refreshing pace to Quincy Crew’s offlane setup. We could potentially see Quinn “Quinn” Callahan shine brighter as a playmaking midlaner.
4 Zoomers aren’t too shabby either, especially with prodigy, Nico “Gunnar” Lopez as their frontal. However, 4 Zoomers have undergone a roster shuffle since failing to qualify for TI10. Perhaps the former International runner-up, David “Moo” Hull can contribute his expertise to put 4 Zoomers back on track.
While Quincy Crew has the leverage in Dota 2 odds at x1.5 versus 4 Zoomers at x2.51 odds. It’s not unreasonable to predict 4 Zoomers could give Quincy Crew a run for their money.
Team Undying vs D2 Hustlers
We have yet another strong contender, Team Undying makes up the NA trio, that competed in TI10 alongside EG and Quincy Crew.
The team decided to stick around after TI10, perhaps realizing they had decent potential to succeed in DPC 2021-22. Fans believe that it’s very plausible for Undying to become a viable team from the NA. They have rivalled EG and Quincy Crew in the last DPC season, which is progress in dethroning EG from their glamorous fame.
Undying has always got the short end of the stick when playing against their local rivals. However, all those attempts aren’t all for naught, Undying’s experience till today has paid off in fortifying their iconic playstyle. Soon, we might just Undying shake EG up when they eventually have a match in the ESL One Winter 2021.
Till then, Team Undying is expected to win at x1.08 against D2 Hustlers at x7.19 odds.
Quincy Crew vs simply TOOBASED
Another interesting series is Quincy Crew vs simply TOOBASED, here’s why. Quincy Crew finally parted ways from their two-year-old roster. While Quinn and Yawar “YawaR” Hassan remained to become the pillars of their self-made team.
Oftentimes, Quincy Crew has become synonymous with EG’s only threat to the majors and Internationals. Hence, with the founding members off the roster, Quincy Crew’s future and performance remain uncertain. For one, fans still believe Quinn and YawaR to be consistent carry players themselves.
Fingers crossed, but we are looking forward to seeing KheZu deliver as an impactful offlane core.
Frankly, simply TOOBASED just isn’t tier-S material, so it will be difficult for them to hold up any fight against Undying. The odds reflect similarly too, where Quincy Crew has x1.02 versus simply TOOBASED at a whopping x12.29.
These are the first weeks’ matches at ESL One Winter 2021. It’s a shame that the highly-anticipated EG vs Quincy Crew match won’t happen until the final weeks of ESL One Winter 2021. Nevertheless, stay notified on the DPC 2021-22 matches and Dota 2 betting for those looking for some cheap thrills.
