Best Roguelike Games for Switch You Need To Play in 2025
Roguelike is perhaps by far the best video gaming genre if you want to get the most out of your Nintendo Switch. The best part about these games is the procedural generation system which randomly generates new levels, enemies, and items, giving you a new experience despite playing the game multiple times. So while you’re travelling, commuting to work, or having a chill weekend, you should consider playing the best roguelike games on Switch to kill some time and keep the boredom away.
9 Best Roguelike Games for Switch
9. Atomicrops

Atomicrops is a post-apocalyptic mashup of farming sim and twin-stick shooting. You plant and cultivate crops while defending them from mutating nasties.
The daily cycle tasks you with harvesting crops to feed the townfolk and earn cash for items and perks.
There’s a lot of depth here, including seasonal rotations, boss battles, new characters, weapons, abilities, and different biomes to explore.
8. Swordship

Swordship is another roguelike title that flips the script by giving you no weapons and a boatload of enemies. It’s not your conventional roguelike as it emphasises high-score chasing.
It features randomly generated enemy layouts, a variety of ships to unlock, and a risk-reward system offering peril or extra lives after each level.
The focus here is on fast reactions, skilful movement, and tactical positioning.
7. Roundguard

Roundguard is probably one of the most unique roguelike concepts we’ve ever seen. It combines the casual pachinko-like gameplay of Peggle with classic dungeon crawling and RPG archetypes – including rogue, wizard and warrior – each with their own unique arsenal of spells and abilities.
Unlike Peggle, the objective here isn’t to clear all the pegs, but rather defeat all the enemies before proceeding onward through procedurally generated dungeons. You’ll complete a series of quests as you go and fight a cast of oddball bosses.
Like other roguelikes, you’ll amass a collection of trinkets and weapons to prepare for the final battle. The game also features leaderboards and daily and weekly challenges, so there’s plenty of content to dive into.
6. Shovel Knight Dig

Shovel Knight Dig is inarguably one of the best roguelike games for Switch where you delve down into unknown depths to recover your stolen loot from the clutches of Drill Knight and his dastardly minions.
If you’re familiar with the control scheme of the original, you’ll feel right at home here.
You have your usual Shovel Knight moveset, including the downwards dig, which you’ll get plenty of use out of, plus a plethora of active and passive items – some returning, some entirely new.
Every run allows you to progress through procedurally generated biomes with unique enemies, hazards, and environments, each home to a powerful boss knight. You’ll gather riches to unlock new armour sets and items, which then appear in future runs.

5. Immortal Redneck

There are several FPS roguelike games on the Switch, but Immortal Redneck stand out due to its amazing concept. You play as an innocent redneck tourist who wakes up mummified and stranded in ancient Egypt, surrounded by mythological creatures. The only option is to grab a gun and start shooting.
You work your way through pyramids, gather mystical scrolls of power, wield a vast array of weapons – some modern, some not, and harness the power of gods as one of nine character classes.
The gameplay is fast and frenetic, just like the good old boomer shooters of the ’90s. If you want a solid roguelike shooter, this one should fit the bill.
4. TumbleSeed

TumbleSeed is a game which is simple to pick up but hard to master. The game tasks you with transporting a seed to the top of a mountain by balancing it on a rolling platform, controlled with each Joy-Con on either side.
You can even play in two-player co-op mode. It definitely looks easier than it actually is! Along the way, you’ll dodge pitfalls and enemies by carefully rolling your seed, but you’ll also harness the power of nature with 30 unique seed powers – from life-sapping auras to flooding flood fruits and spiky thorn vines.
It’s an interesting game and well worth picking up if you want something a little different.
3. Paper Cut Mansion

Paper Cut Mansion is a top-down roguelike combining elements of puzzle solving, survival horror, and twin-stick shooting.
You’ll work your way around an ever-changing Resident Evil-style mansion, solving mysteries as you travel from room to room. You’ll hop between different dimensions, deal with the perils they hold, meet unusual characters, complete quests, and collect cash and experience to upgrade your character and purchase trinkets.
You’re always racing against the clock as a five-armed demigod watches, waiting for you to freeze, bleed to death, or for your mind to crack. On the bright side, you get to enjoy some wonderful papercraft visuals and Burton-esque vibes while it happens.
2. Skul: The Hero Slayer

Skul: The Hero Slayer is a classic action platformer roguelite featuring a skeletal protagonist named Skul on a quest to rid the world of demons.
What makes this one unique is its skull-swapping mechanic, which, much like the Genesis classic Kid Chameleon, lets you switch your head for those of your defeated enemies, gaining new abilities and movesets. There are, in fact, 100 different characters for you to embody.
If you’re looking for a challenge, the bosses in this game will really give you a run for your money.
1. Little Noah: Scion of Paradise
Little Noah: Scion of Paradise offers a roguelite action experience with unique combat mechanics. Noah, a young alchemist, explores ancient ruins to find materials for her ship’s repairs.
She does not attack directly but instead summons and commands a lineup of up to five Lilliputs (spirit creatures) in her attack chain and two in her skill bar, each with unique attacks and abilities. There are over 40 Lilliputs to collect and experiment with.
After each run, resources like mana or gold can be used to upgrade and repair your ship’s facilities, improving Noah’s stats and making subsequent runs easier.
