How to defeat Legendary Pokémon in Pokémon GO – March 2025

We are now entering 2025, which means Pokémon GO has all new Legendary Pokémon appearing in raids. Shadow versions of the Legendary Birds have been rotating in slowly, and others are gone for the time being in favour of the Therian Forme Genie Legendaries.

Legendary Pokémon mainly only come around in raids, so defeating them is incredibly important. They’re also incredibly difficult to take down, which is why a good party and lots of friends are very helpful. It’s impossible to defeat even the lowest CP Legendary without at least three other friends with strong Pokémon.

Here’s the full list of what’s coming in August and how best to defeat it.

Full list of Legendary Pokémon available in this month

First up is Tornadus. The Genie of Wind, soon followed by Thunder and the rumbling earth. This five-star Legendary carries a CP of around 1750 to 1800 when caught and is mono-Flying-type.

Thundurus and Landorus, to round out the trio of Legendaries from the Kalos region, will be returning to the forms that debuted in the game’s sequel, Black and White 2.
Following Tornadus, these two forms are expected to have similar CP values as Tornadus. Thudurus Therian is Electric/Flying-type, and Landorus is Ground/Flying.

How to defeat each Legendary Pokémon

Tornadus is showing up in raids right now. The five-star Pokémon is weak to Electric, Rock and Ice types. All the Genies are weak to Ice due to their shared Ice-type weakness. This is especially notable in Landorus, which is 4x weak to Ice.

You should stock up on Ice types, and consider Electric (for Tornadus), Rock (Tornauds/Thundurus) and Water-types (for Landorus) for the next few weeks. Articuno, Weavile, Mamoswine, Glaceon and Glalie are examples of recent, strong Ice-type Pokémon to consider bringing in. When using Rock types be wary of Landorus’ ground type attacks, and the same can be said of part flying types like Articuno, matching up into Thundurus.

In addition to the Genies, Terrakion, Cobalion, and Virizion have been featured in raids. These three Legendary Pokémon share a Fighting type and all three are 2x or better weak to Psychic, Flying, and Fairy moves.

  • Terrakion is a Rock/Fighting type, which makes it quite weak against Water, Grass, Psychic, Steel, Fairy, and Fighting-type moves. Fill your party with Pokémon like Kyogre, Metagross, Mewtwo, Gardevoir, and Machamp to make quick work of the five-star raid.
  • Cobalion is a Steel/Fighting type, which makes it weak to Fire, Fighting, and Ground-type moves. Pokémon like Charizard, Blaziken, Excadrill, Groudon, and Lucario are excellent choices to counter Cobalion.
  • Virizion is a Grass/Fighting type, which makes it X4 vulnerable to Flying and normally vulnerable to Psychic, Fairy, Ice, Fire, and Poison-type moves. Pokémon like Moltres, Togekiss, Mewtwo, Gardevoir, and Articuno will make the battle much easier for trainers.

Overall, beating the Legendaries this month is a challenge, but you should probably have a type to beat all of them with ease by now.
