Is There a Farlight 84 Esports Scene?

Farlight 84 was released in April 2023, emerging as the latest in a long line of cross-platform battle royale games. As a mobile-first (and also a PC-based) game, it has a lot of competition right off the bat, but thanks to a few unique features and a nice aesthetic, it has already done well for itself. As with any battle royale game, there’s a competitive nature at the heart of the title, but we’re wondering right now if there’s a Farlight 84 esports scene.

There’s a competitive ecosystem wrapped tightly around almost every other battle royale game on the market. For instance, Apex Legends has the ALGS, Fortnite has the FNCS, PUBG has the PGC, and Warzone has the WSOW. But what’s there at the moment for the Farlight 84 esports ecosystem? Are there any Farlight 84 tournaments in development?

Let’s find out.

Are There Any Farlight 84 Esports Events?

It’s a brand-new game and it really needs time to bed into the industry, but there are already sparks of an esports ecosystem flying out from within the heart of Farlight 84. They’re not powerful sparks – but they are there.

On the Farlight 84 website, there’s a section dedicated to ‘E-Sport’, butchering the stylisation of the word ‘esports’, but we’ll overlook that for now. Bizarrely, one of the first things you see when you navigate to this page is an advertisement that’s obviously out of date, promoting an Apex Mobile challenge. There have been claims made that Farlight 84 is essentially Apex Legends for kids, which is something we covered in our Farlight 84 review, but it’s strange to see it so readily represented here, especially considering Apex Mobile no longer exists.

If the Farlight 84 website is anything to go by, there are three different types of competition in the Farlight 84 esports space:

  • ACC: All-Capsuler Championship
  • BO1 Knockout
  • Points Round

It’s written like they’re different, but we kind of get the impression that they’re all related. Upon further investigation, we found an empty esports schedule that seems to represent several regions around the world, including Asia, Europe, and North America – but no events are planned at the time of publishing. There’s a ‘Clan Rank’ leaderboard that is populated, though – but even the most talented clan on the table has only 24 wins and has racked up a total of $353 in prize money.

Surprisingly, Farlight 84’s creators are supporting grassroots tournaments on the site, offering an application process for third parties to host their own events.

That’s basically the full extent of the Farlight 84 esports scene, but how effective has the game been at carving out a presence in content creation circles? As with any new game, there are plenty of YouTube videos and TikTok clips to be found, but how is the game performing when it comes to streaming?

At the time of writing, the game boasts around 1,100 live viewers, with a peak viewer count of 58,895 users having been secured on the 17th of June, 2023. It’s not the worst performance, but it’s a paltry sum compared to some of the best battle royale games out there that have topped 1 million concurrent viewers in the past. Furthermore, Farlight 84’s viewership has dropped dramatically fast.

As this is written, not even a month has passed since the peak was secured, and the 7-day average viewership figure sits at just 1,425 – that’s a decrease of 97%.

But with that being said, Farlight 84’s creators are still intent on supporting streamers and content creators. On the site, there’s a section reserved for content creators – it’s hidden in the Farlight 84 esports section – and it references creators being able to unlock:

  • An ultra-rare logo in-game
  • Cash incentives and in-game item rewards, plus ‘gifts specially made for your audience’
  • An exclusive, comprehensive training plan
  • Online and offline influencer gatherings

There are no indications as to whether or not this scheme has been a success, and it’s likely a stab at having the game marketed by creators, but it’s a step in the right direction.
